One from the bucket list - Malawi Landrace

Ok, I'm gonna grow some Malawi by Ace Seeds. This strain has always been on my bucketlist of strains I would like to try one day but with a flowering cycle pushing 20 weeks, I just didn't have the time to run it through any of my grow rooms.

But since building my latest grow room, I have had a few pretty good crops and have a surplus of weed right now so in my opinion there isn't a better time than now to give Malawi a shot.

The room is an 8ft x 8ft sealed room run by a Trolmaster control system. Bottled CO² will be added during the grow. The lights are 3x Spiderfarmer SF4000 and will be dialed in with a PAR meter throughout the grow.

The plants will be grown in 4x 20 gallon fabric pots with living soil in them. This will be the third grow in this soil and i will only be adding tap water and possibly a few teas but we'll see. The watering in my room is automated and probably the simplest system you can get but works perfectly 100% of the time.

Btw my 5 pack of seeds came with 6 seeds and I had 100% germination/sprouting success. So far I am impressed with Ace Seeds.

Gonna be hard deciding which two don't make the cut for the grow room. Only room for 4 of them in the flowering room.

I think you are going to like the Malawi, it is well worth the grow time !

Mine went just over 21 weeks with a 55 day veg :weed:

600w MH/HPS, 5 gallon fabric bags of ProMix HP and Mega Crop one part. She complained slightly at the recommended feed rates...

20 weeks? omg. What
Yeah, the breeder info says 15 weeks but I have yet to see accurate breeder info, they are usually out by 30% or more. My last crop zombie kush had a breeder recommended flowering cycle of 9-10 weeks, I took mine to 14 weeks and still had one plant that could have gone longer.

Also from reading up on the strain, most comment on the extremely long flowering time of the Malawi being 20+ weeks. But almost everyone commented also said it was well worth the wait.

Promix HP and megacrop are a good combo, I used them multiple times on my crops. I still have a bunch of mega crop, the wife uses it on her hanging baskets. She has really nice flowers.

Your plant looks good, hopefully I have the same luck.

Just curious, why Malawi?? What's the high like? How bout them terps??

My decision was more to try a landrace than Malawi itself. I haven't personally ever tried any landrace strains before since no one wants to grow strains with 20 week flowering times around here.

When I chose this strain it was based on multiple reviews of people saying it was worth the wait, just like chuckeye did in the above comment.

As for the terpenes the reviews say earthy, pine and spice so I suspect maybe similar to a haze strain.

The high is supposed to be quite strong, hoping for that intense sativa stone that makes you feel like your heart is going to jump out of your chest.

You have the high right
But as far as flavor
Mine was more DIRT
22 weeks I pulled early
In a tent you are gonna want to tie them down more than once

I guess the earthy was the DIRT. Lol

I am in an 8'x8'x8' room. Currently, the seedlings are in my veg tent until they are big enough to go in the flowering room. But once they go into it they will be grown using the scrog method.

Here is a picture of one of my past scrog grows.

Good luck with your grow. I too am growing her in my tent along with Ace Seed’s Golden Tiger x Panama(x2), Killer A5 Haze and Golden Tiger. It’s a redemption grow on Malawi for me, but she ain’t looking the prettiest at almost 6 weeks of flowering. Last one I let get away from me after losing my dog Buddy last year (white guy in avatar) I highly suggest you give Golden Tiger a shot. She took me 18.5w for flowering along but I LOVE HER. She‘s motivational, clear headed and energetic after 2-3 bowls. although if you aren’t moving I find her very mellow, but high amounts makes you dizzy and ravenous for food. I have 2 of the GTxP crosses because one barely grew, and now my “runt” is the tallest gal in the tent. Although her replacement looks like it will be highly influenced by Panama Goddess because she’s turning pink in the pistils and on patches of leafs.

Sorry to hear about your dog buddy, I lost my English Bulldog last year too. It's hard when they go.

I was very tempted to get some of their golden tiger but it was my first time running Ace gear so I kept my order small despite all the good reviews I had read. It is probably something i will run in the future if these turn out.

I am very sorry for your loss. They don't stay with us long enough.

It's so very hard to lose them. I'm sorry.

Subbed.
I got the Malawi regular seeds a couple yrs back with the intention to get a male for "pollen chucking" just for the genetics alone.
I grew out 1 male and 2 females and one of them was a 16.5 weeker and could have gone longer lol
Covered in crystals. Light fluffy buds.
I cured it for 3 months or more. Very clear up high. Not much smell off it, maybe a slight sweet smell if you stuck your nose in the jar.
Ace seeds said it was a more tropical pheno.

Pollen chucking was a success. I've 3 Malawi crosses to play with.
I just chopped 4 Malstars - Malawi x Sensi Star original a couple of weeks ago at a respectable 13.5 weeks lol. Big yielders.
I cloned the male Malawi and it's still growing away near 2 yrs now!
