Yes it is, how ever its nothing like it used to be. I'll qualify that statement: I used to eat there years ago when it was centered in LA and Orange county; it was fucking great. They went thru an expansion, and finally they opened one in my area about 3 yrs ago (N. SLO county). Its ok, nothing special; the deal breaker is its too expensive for basically dry mildly spiced chicken. When they first opened they were swamped cuz of folks that knew the original, in my area they are now struggling because its nothing special and little chow for the money. Its a franchise now with supposedly 400 outlets

Anyways, I had a p/t job at an espresso bar company owned by two x-tennis-pro partners. they soon sold their fledgling chain-type coffee co. corporate identity to Koo Koo Roo Chicken (Lol) where, at one time, they had coffee kiosks within their stores of that 'arrosto' brand. Cheers, here's to chicken and coffee. i suspect the brand has dissolved by now. Ty SM
I grew up in LA way before there were chains (except for Bob's Bigboy and Tastee Freeze), back then any place that claimed Mexican were indeed good authentic Mexican. A guy that became a good friend and biz partner about 20 yrs ago was Mexican-American (folks were illegals from the '40s), we used to travel the state for biz and this guy could sniff out the best places even if he had never been there. Yeah, and it was sincere; plus they "adopt" you into their family.Sounds like yr buddy knew how to keep his eye on the prize, as well as, enjoyed a treasure hunt for the good eats. business partners are tricky, but if u remained friends till the end, then that says a lot.
know im prolly stereotyping here, but the handful of mexicanos that i came across while working during my few yrs in Los Angeles, tended to have this thing about asking how everyone in your family was, more so than what i had been previously accustomed to... I liked that!
It's a franchise, so your guy cares. We have an In-n-Out that opened about 8yrs ago, OK but not great like when I was young; however, the ones in LA are still great
