It wasn't just about filibuster..I was begging him to think of the Presidents Legacy..the President is polling low because of perceived 'nothing is happening'. 30% has to be hit between the eyes with positive changes ie passing alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll those bills just sitting, waiting to be brought to the floor..the known 'deal' between Schumer and McConnell..the de facto from WV..the empty seat from Arizona.
I really could care less how he is polling at. He is not president of poll numbers. A lot has gotten done, it just is impossible to get any oxygen on the accomplishments with all the trolling and literal fires that he is constantly getting tossed onto the top of his agenda (and he has consistently dealt about as well with as we can expect).
Sounds like he is in favor of changing the rules to the filibuster and stopped just short of laying out that we need the Democrats to gain at least 2 senate seats in the fall to make those changes.
The president had to go to MBS..if we lose the midterms, it's directly due to Senate INACTION..but boy can Josh Hawley, haul ass!
I disagree. 1. He didn't go to 'MBS', it is a good soundbite, and sucks that MBS was in the mix, but he went on a middle east tour and met all the leaders there, the only other option would be if Biden snubbed MBS, and that unfortunately was counter to his goal of offsetting the instability in the world thanks to Putin.
If we lose the midterms, it will be because of voter suppression tactics and SCOTUS fuckery that allowed it to happen (like allowing racist Republican gerrymandered maps to not get tossed), and not anything that 48 Democratic senators could have done legislatively to fix.
Outside of a fluke in 2016 when we were completely blindsided by our elections got attacked by Putin, and states that are so gerrymandered by the Republicans over the last few decades that they are next to impossible to flip control, the Regressive agenda is a loser.
The man does write a good letter!
Not sure if this is the tone schuy wants to strike. But I liked his idea of reigniting American democracy, and I would ask about his plan. How would he do his job specifically to deliver elements of the plan?
Have him list the biggest hurdles and his strongest assets. What tactics does he match to each?
A different tack would be to generally agree, and to say nice things about the really quite good letter. He seems to have a good handle on the current situation.
I’d look for a way to probe him on his sentiments and potential policies about “the layer behind that”: dark campaign money at every level, including dogcatcher. How to shine a bright light on kingmakers loke the Kochs or the ongoing drive by some influential churches to replace the republic with a theocracy?
I dunno. Im still in lockdown in a silent place and might need a sanity tweak.
as in small adjustment, not stout dose of speed
Outside of saying 'ffs vote in more Democrats in other states/districts so that we can have enough Democrats to overcome the Right wing agenda' I really don't know what else he could have said.
Dark money can't be fixed until SCOTUS is fixed or major legislation can be passed.
