NY downstate outdoor growers

Do you think it’s a bad idea if you are planning to harvest mid October? Have an auto that might go until that late in the season. My plants are in pots so I can always bring in during storms and if temps drop way down. Just want to hear thoughts from others with experience. Thank you.

You just gotta keep your eyes peeled for mold, if it’s gonna rain bring it inside or cover it up. I grow outdoors every year in the Adirondacks you will be fine .

I'm in the northeast very close to you. I harvest in October every year. I even pulled down flower first few days of November once.

Two tips for late harvest success; as the daytime temps drop mold and mildew can become an issue. If possible plants with flower need to be kept dry. I have a massive yard tent so I'm able to shield them from rainy days. Also use fabric smarts pots rather than plastic.

I also treat my plants twice a week with BT. Caterpillar and moths lay eggs into the fall. Works like a charm.

The plants can withstand cold very well. Aside from hard frost you should be good.

Your doing the same thing I am. Getting them out of the way of rain.

My state just passed legal home grow. I want to go into the ground next year instead of pots. I've been thinking how large outdoor growers protect the plants from rain.

Are you new to outdoor growing? If so do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of Monterey BT asap. If you don't treat those plants once a week until flower they will be infested with caterpillars and worms. We have several species of moth in our neck of the woods that will lay eggs on plants now and until late fall. If they get a toe hold they will ruin the whole thing on you.

It's a must and when properly and consistently applied it keeps the plants almost 100% free of caterpillars.

I had not looked at that. All I got for prevention so far is Neem oil but I will get it right away because I did just find this in my kids garden
