NooB Advice

you know whats funny.........i took a couple of the other plants i had and planted them on my neighbors property(i hate my neghbors, nosy fuckers) any way put them from a closet to out doors, and they got snowed on the other day(wich dont happen in a closet) and they seem to be alot THICKER.( I saw them for the first time yesterday walking my pit) they arent taller but man are the stems and leaves BIG.

thought it was cool tht something exposed to the elements are looking stronger then a "contolled" environment grow.
wonder how many times they have whilted and looked dead and got back pretty again, no one knows cause they werent around to see it, point is they are doing great,

you think october would be a good time to go back( i am not going there again.....

u can say the response is different.. remember they are a plant first then they are cannabis and then indica sativa and then strain.. so im saying my PLANTS is not acting as a plant should

i was already perked when i watered it.. for some reason today its wilted.. i do understand about pot weight and such.. this is my 5 or so grow im pretty well versed in watering.. but i ant figure this out

funny thing is.. i just got up to go in the room.. it is pretty dry.. ummm damn this pheno is drinking alot more than my sativa.. because shes in a smaller pot and still wet.. hmmm.. so i guess i was wrong.. i hope it no more than water.. ill sho before n after pics within the next few minutes.

Well if she was fine yesterday when you watered and wilting tody, I doubt it has anything to do with underwatering.

John, you can't always look at the top of the medium and go "it looks dry, time to water." The top of the soil holds less moisture than the layer right underneath, and so on as you go down. Especially when you have lights right overhead thats going to cause the moisture to evaporate quicker than the lower levels.

hey riddle, how long can established mature plants in 5 gal soil pots go without any attention?

right.. and overwatering is the#1 seedling killer..

That depends on how fast it is wicking water, in some cases it could be an everyday thing or could go 3 to 4 days and even that depends on how the grower waters if you do so in a way that slows the plant down it could go up 7 or 8 days.

If your askin cause you have to leave it unattended for awhile I would say use the wick method to tend to it while your away, which is to bury a wick 3 inches into the soil of your pot and put the other end into a bucket of water, plant will take water thru the wick as it needs it

btw the leaves are not burnt or yellow, thats the lighting.

could i do the same for my 8 4-5 day old spouts? im just leaving for 4 days, and you had said earlier that they would be fine if i just water them till run off. but id rather be safe than sorry....

You could but there is no need for sprouts as they don't wick water fast

Is it possible to OD the plant with the neem oil? I think I've killed off the spider mites(I can't see any of the bastards or their eggs anymore, at least), but I'm still losing some leaves. They curl up on the sides and end, start going black and then crumble. I've rinsed the leaves off with water the next day, but I've been VERY vigorous in my application of the neem oil solution (3 tsp of einstein oil per qt of water, and I'm using up 2 qts between 6 plants) so I'm starting to wonder if too much neem might by part of my problem.

I have never used neem oil (knocks on wood) so limited experience but I found this thread that described the black leaves as being a result of neem oil overdose (that guy mixed it to strong) here

Sounds a lot like what I'm experiencing. I sprayed them down really heavily with water today and I'm going to wait a week before I go back to doing preventative sprays with a lighter concentration, so hopefully that will solve the problem. I'm still going to lose a few more leaves based on what I see now, but they've got a good 7-8 weeks before harvest to recover. Here's hoping I don't have any more spider mites or serious problems on this grow. I know one thing, I'm going to have to go out and get a real sprayer instead of trying to use a hand held bottle. That may work fine for a couple of plants, but it's a pain when you have 6 bushy ones.

As for my new plants, the one that was having problems seems to have stabilized, but isn't safe yet. I had to pinch off all of her major leaves since they were draining too much energy from her, but since I did that she's stopped wilting and seems to be doing ok. The new growth she had isn't doing much yet, but since it's staying green and healthy that leads me to believe she's concentrating on developing her roots they way I wanted her to. She may still have problems, but at the moment I'm fairly sure she's going to survive.

No, I think I said raise the humidity, Shrubs mentioned azotrol (or something like that) and someone else said malithyon which just works (kills things)

I have been lucky enough not to have any pest,,,,,,yet (knocks on wood again)

hey riddle, lol hope im not buggin you, but you seem to know everything. im leaving for canada soon and im actually staying at my buddies house which is right next to the Ontario seed bank. my grow space will be occupied for some time, so if i buy some seeds when im up there, how long will they be good for?

Wish I had your luck with the pests. I'm kicking myself for not realizing what I was seeing earlier, because then I probably wouldn't have over reacted with the neem. I'm a bit surprised at how I'm reacting to this setback though. All my life my parents have been into gardening and they always had to force me to get involved and help them. Now I'm starting to understand why dad spent so much time fussing over his tomatoes and strawberries while mom was freaking out about her various flowers. Once you've invested the time and energy to get them going having anything mess with them is like having someone mess with your kids.

Yeah I'm a stickler for cleaning everything with bleach before startin and sealing cracks with caulk etc.

and yes growing is Zen like with the relaxation it offers as well as the attachment that developes, it's a wonderful, fulfilling thing and yes that does cause the worries to be stronger but it also helps as the experience builds as I have found the relaxing part takes over, you get to a point where you just do instead of worrying

Thanks riddle, what do you use for a wick? I imagine that it has to be able to more a good amount of water and that some twine or something isn't going to cut it. I want to be able to leave my house for more then a couple of days this summer, so this is kinda important to me.

Nice advice! Could someone tell me if I didnt give my plants any nutes would they die?
