Sorry man, I just smoked a J and I can't even follow what I just wrote.

What I mean by the base is the part that keeps the soil out of the rez. On normal SIPs, there is an air gap between the rez and soil. Do you do it the same way?
check this out, I used a window screen before as well, to keep to the soil out of the rez. it worked but it also kept the roots out the rez as well! and no water roots!!! I no longer use it!CM181124-210119001.jpgCM181124-210136002.jpg

I just got my password on my new computer, it's a pain in the ass remembering log in information from different websites. I should be more involved now. I was having to go to the kid's room and get on my old computer for RIU.

It wouldn't hurt me to read a little lol... What about an air gap. Most people use an air gap, but I know that things are a little different with EM1.

I'm really looking forward to building SIPs because straw and hay have been nothing but trouble and not using it for mulch would be a big plus for me. I'm pretty sure that the last couple of hay bales that I brought in had spider mites and fungus gnats. Plus, I'm very allergic to hay/straw and it makes it a little harder to go in my garage. My rabbits like to run circles when I'm in there and they stir all that shit up. Allergic asthma sucks! Half the time I have to wear a dust mask.

I know you already found the answer, but I'll say it again here for anyone else!

it's a 1" air gap between the floor, and top water level on the rez!

I ordered a couple of earthboxes and I plan on DIY some later. It feels strange because I am usually a DIY person. However, if I have good results, then I am probably going all in on SIP.

Hey Green, are you using Teraganix em-1? I started using that on my compost pile( activated em-1) and man, it worked great. Helped with smell and really helped activate and get my pile cooking. Two days ago I just amended my last run of soil with some of that compost and I'd like to jump start it using em-1. Do you use activated em-1 (fermenting with molasses and vinegar for a week) or are you running straight out the bottle?

I expand for over a month, it has a rest at a 3.6 ph. And yes and yes and yes to all your others questions

Yup, thats the stuff. Nice setup you've got with the jug and airlock, I need one of those.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid ordering anything online, but that might be my only option finding molasses rn.

I have 4 of them that I use.
When you add your em-1 (i thought i read on your other thread, it's 1 cup? ) do you add the em-1 straight into your reservoir without cutting with h20? That makes sense considering youre adding it to a tank of water anyways.
I'm going to start using em-1 more now that I'm running amended soil.

Cost too much, and the ph is way too low!

@Greenthumbs256, did you ever figure out the calcium, mag locking out k? I talked with an agronomist and he recommended a 1:2.5 ratio of mg to k, this is backed up online where if this ratio is at 1 or higher it can lock you out. Optimum is between 0.3 and 0.67. I only know the ratio on my first soil batch and beyond first grow would need a soil test.

No I never did, actually tossed that soil, and just kept moving forward! Only issue I've been having lately, is finding out the exact amounts I need to add of things like, iron, sulfate, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc. Ya know those kinda things. Lately I've just been adding new soil, mixed with me old that's been amended to the best of my ability. Just been very busy, and so many things going on.
