First off, their "disrespect" for the flag is your opinion. I don't see it this way and nor do they. Their protest is a way to draw attention to the sanctioned murder of blacks by police. You seem to be one of those whiners who ask why blacks can't protest peacefully when there are riots and then proceed to tell them how they are allowed to do so when they do.

Second, the consequences are exactly what makes their speech no longer free. If the consequences are economic, are only people who can afford it allowed to speak their minds and express their dissatisfaction?

You clearly don't understand the rights given to us by the Constitution. But I am not surprised at all by this.

why even show the players kneeling during the anthem?...they don't show streakers on the field during games so they don't get any attention. Just keep the cameras off the players during the anthem. Show the flag and the crowd and don't show the players.....easy solution

Frankly, I see their taking a knee as a patriotic act. They understand what this country should be as embodied by the Constitution even if America fails to deliver on it. Protesting this is the right thing to do and we have no right to circumscribe their methods of doing so as long as they are violating no laws, not hurting anybody or destroying anything other than a bunch of fragile rednecks' psyches.

When I see them do it, I am proud to be an American. It is what this country should be about rather than what it really is about today.

Even if I totally disagreed with them, seeing them do it would still make me proud to be American. Dissent is our right guaranteed by the Constitution.

"As a general rule, the First Amendment doesn't apply to the private workplace," said Daniel Schwartz, employment law partner at Shipman & Goodwin. Instead, the First Amendment prevents government, but not companies or individuals, from limiting free speech.

You can say whatever you want in a private workplace, Schwartz said, but you should "assume your employer might have something to say about it."

They are directly hurting their employers, who have every right to be concerned about it... Also it has gone much farther than 'taking a knee', some are stretching and even going as far as to throw up 'black power' signs. There is no way you can view that as 'patriotic', even if you ARE 'idiotic'.

Then the teams should fire them rather than fine them. But they won't do that will they? Nope, they want to continue to profit from their skills while turning them into obedient cash cows.

Taking a knee in a time-honored tradition of protesting injustice elevates our country. The protest is over Black Lives Matter issues. You are the one who disrespects the flag, the values and freedom of our nation by saying black people have no right to bring the message of the Black Lives Matter movement to the forefront by taking that knee.

The NFL owners were legally entitled to enact that rule. Doesn't mean they were right to do so.

You are a white man, I presume? What do you really know what it is like to be stopped for driving while black? How about accepting that you don't really know?

It's a private company there is no free speech. If so people for instance at McDonald's could say welcome to McDonald's motherfuckers to everybody you came through the door. Your arguement is just stupid they can still protest just not when they're getting paid millions of dollars by a private company.
