I am about to buy a large upgrade for my room. I am torn between 2 600w nextgen digital ballasts with 2 6" XXXL reflectors, or 2 1000 watt Xtreme magnetic ballast with lifetime warranties and 2 XXXL reflectors. anybody know about the quality of these items? I can get anything i want from C.A.P. catalog cheap as hell, thats why I am going with this company. I am also torn between just using 1 XXXL reflector and 2 sunsystem classics. i already own a classic reflector and a 1000 watt lumatek so i would just need 2 6's
I got a 10x10 growing area with a 20 site aeroponics and DWC totes. 22 plants is what im growing.

Any info will help +REP for people with good info

CAP makes great products the nexgens last and their reflectors are made of steel, a bit heavier but more durable. Reflectors also come with a lifetime warantee.

Id go with the 2, 1000's anyday. seen them pump out some serious weight. and if its under warranty i wouldnt sweat it but thats just me.

I use the 400W/600W ballast by NEXTGEN . Using the 600W , I am seeing amazing results. I am on my fourth grow and when I can afford it , I will add another NEXTGEN inside the room.

I had bad luck with Nextgen. The 400/600 ballast was dead on arrival. I didn't think that was very good quality control to be dead right out of the box like that, so I went with a 600W Phantom. I guess it could have been banged around or something, since Nextgen seems to have a good rep around here. CAP's customer service wasn't the best either. Atleast for me it wasn't.

Good luck. If I could get all the CAP stuff for "cheap as hell" like you, I might try them again.

Anyway, I recommend the digital ballast with a digital bulb, like digilux or the like.

I got the 1000 watter and love it. After 24 hrs of being on 240 I would have teabagged it. It was still blowin out cold air! Bright as hell and looks dope floating on the wall.. I am gonna but another one. My local store hooked it up for 300.00 so I couldn't refuse! Digilux is the bulb to use with it. 155,000 lumens...

I would reccomend one to everyone!

IMHO Nextgen kicks ass. I have the 400/600 and am going to go buy another 600. After using it, I really don't see any need for a 400/600 switchable since mine is on 600 all the time! I've got five grows under this thing and have had ZERO issues. I run it with a cool tube and an elicent 6" 304 cfm fan for bulb cooling. The tube is so cool you can hold your hand right on it. Hope this helps!

yeah...originally I was thinking the same thing. But once I got the right fan and reflector, it wasn't really adding to the temp of my room anymore either at 400 or 600. So I stuck with the more lumens! I firmly believe they are the best ballasts out there. But by the same token, it's the only one I own! I have a friend with a Lumatek and he swears by the thing. It uses fins like a lawn mower engine to keep cool vs the Nextgen which uses fans. Both seem effective. I can tell you the Nextgen fans are about as quiet as it gets.

nice, i have the same ballast as the one on the right, but that nextgen makes it look like the fat chick on the block.

i'm in the kzoo/g.r. area if your stuffs in any stores around that area. i'm always interested in nice hand made (not in india) pieces. i know shakedown street in g.r. usually has a few nice ones, but the last really nice piece i bought was at peace fest in 2009.
