To answer your question about the extra colas I think that's going to be bud and fill your main colas. As for defoliating or trimming off anything; I take any big leafs that are casting big shadow on bud sites. If leafs are healthy and not blocking much the more the better your plant doesn't so much feed them as they feed your plant. As for lower growth and lollipoping; the plant can have a hard time supporting the lowest growth that's why you see trees starting their branches up higher and the ones in the first foot are small. So if the lowest growth is stringy it won't have fat bud but if it looks like the top growth it will bud like it. You don't have to lollipop. I would defoliate to provide air flow against mold and for breathe and for light. Just go easy . Looking good.
I would lollipop cause as I said and tharoomman said and cause I was told that the plant wants to focus it's energy so more than eight colas is spreading out resources. This I believe but haven't experimented so just my two pennys and some salt.
