How large of a resevoir will I need to flood my table? It's 8'X4' with 4 inch walls . As I understand the table needs to be flooded to about 1/3 and there will be a bunch of media in there . So I was planning on using a large rubbermaid tote (28 gallons), but if thats not gonna cut it, I'll likely attach two of them together side by side - I have height restrictions.

8'x'4 = 96"x48" = 384"^2 (384" squared)

and you want 4" high but only 1/3 the way up, so that's 4"x(1/3) = 1.32" high with water

so we take the tables surface times the height to find the aria, 384"x1.32" = 506.88"^3 (inches cubed for aria)

since gallons are about 231"^3 we can take 506.88"/231 = ~2.2 US Gallons. Not as much as you thought, eh?

so you will need enough water in your res to cover your water pump and then add 2.2 Gallons to that.
