You have 8 sq. Ft. So 8X50 = 400w MIN. Thing is a 400w footprint will not cover the 4ft wall to wall spacing you will now have effectively and your plants nearer to the edge of the canopy will suffer slightly for it (more stretch, leafier bud, lower quality). 600w bulbs put out just over a 3X3 foot print for high efficiency range (reflector options change this measurement slightly Magnum xxxl or something the like might be a good option for you) so if its a choice between the two I would go with the 600w. Right now Im doin a down sized run in a 30"X30" Tent and running 1000w cause I had all these big inline fans lying around from when I had a big room and Im still able to maintain temps at 200w/Sq foot! What I mean to say is I would always recommend over sizing when it comes to ventilation you can always add a speed controller to have even more control on your environment. -S0uP

^^^^As I stated, 400w is the min recommended wattage for 8 square feet, the edges of that canopy will be roughly 3.5 feet away from the bulb (easy to figure out using Pythagorean theorem), compare the 400w foot candle drop per distal inch to the 600w. For a few more dollars invested now he could get the 600W and a slightly larger fan, easily keep temps under control, produce 3,4 or even 5 more Oz a harvest (Even as a novice gardener) and when the inevitable up size comes along he wont be holding on to a piece of equipment that he has little to no use for. In my opinion 600w lights are the most versatile bulbs on the market. Trust me, Im no Dr. I grow weed. Just my .02 -S0uPView attachment 2598787

I personally think a 400w is too small. I run a 400w in a 1.6'x3'x5' and I think it's perfect for that size any larger and it's not enough.

Pay attention to the fixtures as mentioned above. It's better to go with a long reflector over the square. I have a 30" cool tube on a 400w to stretch the light over my 2 X 3 closet. I'm sure a 2 X 4 room would see a sacrifice of light intensity on the outer edges where a 600w would do a better job.

Or you can try 2 250w.
Ya that way he could spend more cash and have 2 useless pieces of equipment by the end of this grow, and still not yield as much as the 6....

Jeez man sometimes NO information is better than BAD information. -S0uP

Everything quoted is 100% truth. Some people really need to have their reply ability disabled.

This is for better coverage and heat management. It may be worthless to you, but to him he may not need to grow 17 pounds at once....

Everybodies situation is different, and in his situation 2 250s would cover that entire area. I could have said 2 600s but then hows he going to deal with heat? Its already been stated that he WONT be able to cover that area with a 400 because its too long.

Will it cost money? Yes... will it be the most effective and efficient in a longer space? It will definitely get more light to ALL areas without having 2 plants decent and 2 plants suffer... So while you have your opinion, i have mine. It may not work for you but it would for him....just my 2 pennies

2 250w would put off more heat than one 600w. Your idea is terrible. No it won't be more effective either.

250w HPS = 29,000 lumen x 2 = 58,000 lumen
600w HPS = 90,000 lumen
400w HPS = 50,000 lumen

2 250w hps puts off just a tad bit more lumen than one 400w HPS.

Only an idiot would pick two 250w over one 600w. 100 watts more for 32,000 extra lumen. I'll take that please.

600w is more than enough for a 2x4

Hanging 2 250w fixtures would be a pain in the ass in a 2x4

Wow....... Just wow...... I usually don't have too much negative to say, but please sir go away with this info. You've obviously never built a room in your life. You 2 pennies aren't worth shit at any exchange rate....
