i wonder if i just use the cxa3070....they are cheap...less efficient but cheaper.

that way i could get a feel for how the led building works...and see if i like it.

At least go with cxb, just build a 200 watt panel with 4 cobs to start if you want to test the waters.

You're getting great info, reggae shark.
The cxb3590s can cover 1.5 sq ft a pop.
Here's Growmau5's room. 4x10 DIY led with cxb 3070. He puts a lot of detail into his videos and threads, I've learned alot! He even provides links to everything he purchased in his builds!

I would replicate his setup for your 4x4 space
finally had a chance to watch this. great video! thank youl!

I went with 3070s. I feel like 3590s are the elitist category lol not there yet! And you save a good chunk

(4) CXB3070 3000K AD @ 1.4A = 200W
48% efficient
96 PAR W
$130 + $52.5
$1.90/PAR W

(4) CXB3590 3500K CD @ 1.4A = 196W
56.2% efficient
110 PAR W
$186 + $52.50
$2.17/PAR W

Not a huge difference in price per P/W. (Kingbrite prices) Also, you get more PPFD for the area utilizing the 3590. If you built a CXB3070 and a CXB3590 the same way, the 3590 would theoretically produce more per sq ft.

Absolutely the 3590s would produce a little more. If my situation permitted I would go that route, but I had a time and money crunch lol. An additional $56 dollar cost increase was unfortunately out of the question at the time. Might be trivial for some, but everyone's situation is different.

Simply Slide mentioned his budget crunch, so those numbers are great to look at to decide what route to go with. You get out what you put in. To me, cxb3070s are a great value and still kickass!

Oh I agree, the CXB3070 shouldnt be overlooked. They are still a good value. I have 2 CXB3070 setups and plan on keeping them going for awhile.

Great thread, it seems to have all the links to needed parts. It's also cementing the reputation of the 4 x CXB3590 on a 200W driver as the de facto standard build, a platform that's even flexible enough to allow for chips of different Kelvin temperatures to better match output with use.

Guys dont forget the Bridgelux Vero 29's, price vs performance vero 29 would also be a excellent choice and I think I read somewhere may outperform CXA3070
