thank you @bassman999 for the link.

ok so how much light from these cobbs would replace a 1000w in a 4x4?

im really trying to learn this shit and would to save a few bucks on my power bill.
If you ran the CXB3590 at full power it would be around 8.
But we arent running them full power, half power or less is common.
I would think 16 run at about 50 watts each would out perform a 1000HPS in about every way

so i have only looked up prices on ebay ad they sell them on there for $60 a piece.

so 16x these would be around 1000k just in chips, then i have to purchase heatsinks, drivers, fans and misc things....

how are you guys doing this!

KingBrite charges $46.50 each for those cobs. He gives increasing discount for mulitples. I dont know how many needed for that though as I only bought 6 cobs. From what I have read KingBrite (Jerry) is the one to go to for the cobs since he has the better BIN, and they are verified. Other sellers in US arent the good bin, and other Alibaba and eBay sellers might be selling lower BIN ones and passing them off as the better ones.
Jerry can also sell you the drivers cob holders, and lenses if you decide to use lenses.
He has 2 options for shipping. If you bought just a small amount of cobs China Post is a cheap option. It is slower though.
He also ships DHL which is fast but expensive.
The drivers holders etc...can all be bought from Mouser etc...on the net.
am i looking in the wrong places??!!

Use one of these for each, or from Heatsink usa to do a passive or even an air cooled but smaller sink.
(4) of the HLG-185H-C1400 is a way to do this if you choose the 36V version of the CXB3590s

I believe this is based on 4, so this x 4 is what you need, plus wires and thermal paste
@ 56.3%
(4) CXB3590 3500K CD 36V @ 1.4A (49W ea) $190
(1) HLG-185H-C1400 $65
196 dissipation W -> 85.7W heat ->
passive cooled heatsink 10284cm² -> 5.88" X 38" heatsink $72 (could split in 2 to improve uniformity/spread)
or
active cooled heatsink 3428cm² min -> 3.5"X36" heatsink (for spread) $45 +80mm fan +psu $10
(4) lenses $16
110.3 PAR W covering 6ft² = 824 PPFD
$311 = $3.07/PAR W passive cooled (great value point IMO, very efficient use of driver)
$326 = 2.96/PAR W active cooled

so for this setup i added up roughly $400
and your sayng i would need this x4 to compete with my 1k hps?

i may not be understanding that correctly..

I have basically this same build but only 12 cobs, not 16 and the total cost was around $1200 so I would say this is a fair estimate

My unit comes close to competing with a 1000 watt also
