ok a bit of an update

not much progress. new growth is weak and scraggly, BUT slightly green.

the good news is the roots- there has been an obvious increase in the number of root hairs since i put the aerator in there.

they are in 001ppm water, pHed. hopefully ill have some better news in a couple days.

i ordered the fox farm nutes and will never advocate or advice anyone to use Advanced Nutrients. their feeding shcedules are all over the place.

by the time i get those nutes if this crop hasnt turned around, im scrapping and starting over.
sounds like the plants are starting to take a turn for the better - hopefully not too late. Your plan sounds good.

i have further experimented. i removed the plant and roots from the foam "medium" and moved it up , so the plant is supported but the roots arent contained in there partially

by doign this the roots are no longer half in the foam, half in water. all the roots are fullly submerged in the solution. i did this with only one plant. well see what happens

This sounds like a good idea. i hope they turn around for you.

no go.

i scrapped them all, even tho one was doing decent. the tops of the plants were dead, no new upward growth was happening. i did a little looking around and the plants were no where near what they should have been at that point in time.

that was the weekend. i have since made a couple changes and germinated a new batch.

i have some real good beans on the way that i will grow in rockwool , but im going to keep on with this aerogarden just to see how it does.

I had this same problem with the AG....leafs started turning brown and everything stopped growing. That res seems to collect all the nutes in one spot cuz of its semicircle shape. I think the nutes just sitting at the center like that next to the pump is just burning the little guys. I changed the water and used hardly any nutes at all...not even 1/4 of suggested in FF feeding schedule. I noticed a change almost over night. My bigger plants that were browning still grew brown spots but it was replaced with thick undergrowth. My 2 smaller plants grew over an inch within 3 days of cutting back on nutes. I also have and extra light and airstone in the res.I would try cutting back on the nutes and making sure your PH is ok.

well friends
its been a while. since my last post on this particular thread- i have started a new batch in the AG.
i am seeing the same issues- new growth is yellow.

im pretty sure my issue is salt buildup. the ph is not stable - i end up adding around 15 drops of ph down daily.

this creates a lot of salt buildup in the res, it needs to be changed 2-3 times a week

this does not bode well for the AG. the conclusion that we can draw from this is the res is too small to support many plants. although there are people who get postive results i think that for the money spent and maintenance required this is not the most efficient system.

i have some ak 47s growing in rockwool on the side tho :blsmoke:

Did you ever figure out why the leaves were turning yellow? It sounded like a Potassium shortage like I had. Just a suggestion. The spots on the leaves is what made it sound that way
