Thanks for the details. It's a very efficient process, as far as supplies go. I would use citric acid myself, no stink and it's a double carboxylic acid so you need half the moles compared to acetic. At least I think that's how it works, citric is the strongest natural carboxylic acid there is, available at the Bulk Barn by the way, or other bulk food stores I'm sure.

I recently also posted in the concentrates forum, which is where this should really be, about a method of removing crud from butane extracts. Turns out that the non-cannabinoid part, which is usually about 10%, is lignins and other stuff I can't recall at the moment. By just extracting the pure THC and CBD acids in the first place, with base/acid extraction, you avoid having to clean up gunk to make it smokeable. And no, you don't need terpenes, and if you do then just buy a jug and smoke some, be a lot cheaper than paying the same price as THC for it by buying the average concentrate. You can get a nice gallon jug of limonene at Home Dept for considerably less than the price of a gallon of THC.

If a person doesn't want a product that looks different, like white powder or chunks, all you gotta do is put it in a microwave in a pile on some parchment and blast it until it fuses into an amber mass. It's actually almost gold in color and has a peculiar consistency, which will pancake to about a 1/8th inch thick disc. It has a kind of lightness, it's less dense than regular extracts, almost like it's fluffed up slightly. The thing is, it's in a form that users are familiar with for extracts, a spreadable amber/gold goo. By the way this stuff is easy to get off parchment, it peels right off at room temperature. Actually I just thought of something that has a similar consistency, Silly Putty. I guess that would actually be an appropriate name for it, because it does make you kind of silly.

I thought of an idea, use ammonia solution as the base, that way you can tell when you added enough because you can smell the excess ammonia. As soon as you smelled any ammonia at all you would stop. Then when you acidify it, using vinegar as you suggested, you'll know when it's enough vinegar because you'll smell the excess. It guess it does make more sense to use commonly available vinegar than citric acid since it's just being thrown away afterwards. I can't try the ammonia idea myself, because there's no clear ammonia sold anywhere near me, but if there is near you it might be something to try.
