New guy with some questions.

To answer the unanswered question - you want to prevent stretching because it will lead to a very tall and lanky plant with too much distance between bud sites. Not only might you not have vertical space for it, but it is very hard to keep it properly illuminated and it will produce a poor yield.

If the OP wants to test feasibily and money is not a huge object, then test with corners uncut. Get a light system with a 400 watt digital balast that can be dimmed to 250. This is very useful. You can run a 250 MH for veg which is plenty, and use the 400 for flower. You can also dim it to 250 which can be handy if you run into heat problems.

as far as disc drive grows or w/e they're called, i don't really think it's the best idea m8, nothing against any of these kinda growers who may read this, lol..
i'm not sure what your box now looks like, so i can't really comment much on that, lol.. but just to give you an idea, i only grow in a space about the same size as yours is, mine is 3 by a lil under 3 and like 7 feet tall or so, and i use a 400 watt digital setup, and can fit about four or so nice sized plants under my lamp and into my lil closet..
as far as what i would go for in that link, let me give it a looksy, lol.. the one thing i already now is that i don't usually care much for the hoods that come with the cheaper versions, so i'm sure i'd opt for a better hood, as far as what else, give me a second and i'll go look again..

if money is not a issue get yourself a grow tent for 150 bucks and like illigal said a 400w with dimable ballast. but a ebb n flow system and some beans from a trusted seedbank.

i was under the impression he was trying to keep it relativly low cost but still have a successfull grow, not the best grow but something he could smoke in the long run.

either way seems he has enough help here so im out. gl man

wow for a moderator pretty lame advice
Why is that lame advise? The guy's on a budget. Sounds like great advise to me. OBVIOUSLY he'd be better off with a 400 or 1K, but a 250 will work!

Why do I want to prevent this?

. These seeds are from a mid grade cannabis at best. I wanted to try and grow this first before purchasing seeds and spending a decent amount of time on this and not have any product. I'll spend what's needed for the this 1 plant grow for now. If it even turns out remotely well I will focus on a much larger grow build and a more efficient space for my future plants later on down the road.
You want to keep the distance between the nodes as short as possible. The further away the light is, the more the plant will "stretch" to get to it. You have the right idea, starting with bag seed until you get this down!! Even tho it's bagseed, you'll get some pretty damn impressive smoke from it, I assure you!

get a 250watt hps run 2 plants under it in 5 gallon pots look into lst. make sure to learn to tell when to water. do not crop early. there you go

it is LAME, its not bad but lame, he may as well just said GOOGLE it

sorry i like to try and work with people to help em out, my grow sucks right now but i have learned alot from my mistakes and have no problem taking a few minutes to help someone out, this is how in my OPINION a moderator should answer a question, otherwise just dont bother.

it sounds to me that the lights that you have now won't work well for you honestly...
look around the house and see if you can't find some cfl bulbs, they are those newer spiral shaped bulbs that you use in place of older incadesent style bulbs.. if you have any of them around the house right now, just use them for time being...
if you don't have much money, you can go over to say home depot or lowes or w/e, and buy as many of the biggest actual wattage cfl bulbs that you can find in the 6500k bulbs for now.. the k rating will be written on the front of the package somewhere.. you want the 65k ones for veg and the 2700k ones for flower.. you can mix and match if you like as well..
the more lights that you can fit, afford, the bigger your plants will grow and the faster they will do so as well so long as it doesn't get too hot in the grow space..
or if you have a lil more money and want better results, the next step up in what are called t5 lights.. they are long tube flouros, and will grow better plants then cfl's alone.. of course you could use a t5 and cfl's together for even better growth..
the next step up from t5's would be hid, or high intesisty discharge lighting which include metal halide, which are generally used for vegetive growth and high pressure sodium, hps, which are used for flowering.. both of these types of bulbs require what is called a ballast, which is used to send electricity at a high rate to the bulbs to fire them.. you can usually get a full hid setup, including bulbs, ballast and hoods online from places like high tech garden supply to name just one.. they range from around $200 or so all the way up to pretty much the skies the limit...
as for nutrients, i'm not sure what home depot and lowes carries, but you should look for anything that says organic on the bottle.. this would be your best bet to not burn your plants and give great tasting results..
or, you could also order some online from any number of hydro stores.. a nice cheap easy to use brand is the fox farms trio.. it's obviously a three part and runs around $60 or o the trio and gives nice results and is easy to use ime..

hope that helps some and points you in the right direction..
