the video i put shows the first lot coming down the street in uniform to be greeted with bottles and chants of fuck the police. personally i'f i had riot gear i would put it on before walking down that street again

the purpose of me bringing the raves was that if you done cause trouble then you dont get riot gear (even in situations where the police has every power to shut you down)
Which comes first the chicken or the egg? Did you go to college? Ever had an annual block party? Police presence is normal but they showed up as you see them in force just looking for trouble and the kids responded to their presence as you would expect. It was a set up. The riot police didn't show up *after trouble* that is the whole problem, them being there caused the trouble. Kids were dumb to fall for it but hey, they didn't start it just responded poorly to the situation.

Know your history and recognise the bad guys. A block party isn't a protest, but the situation lately is headed back towards this.

theres a difference between the police being there and police pushing people about causing trouble

i still havent found a vid of the police doing anything before the fire and pulling down the sign

those kids are responsible for their own actions

they happen because the police realise that there isnt any trouble, people dont die, everyone is respectful of surrounding properties

What's not to understand? It's never been like that before and wouldn't have been if security were normal..
Really? Where did you find the crystal ball?

I think it's you who doesn't have a grasp of reality here. Who really cares if the police came in riot gear? Each individual student/person had a choice to make.
Sadly they seemed to have chosen to act like thugs, when they could have just as easily taken the opportuntiy to demonstrate responsibility and maturity.

Personal responsibility....what a strange concept.

questioning authority is called dissent-

and practicing it is not thug. it's american. there is no question showing up to the party with guns and bats IS thug. police in riot gear overwhelmingly says "wanna fight?". as a matter of fact..... .

also. aren't the police in america employed by the citizens to "protect us, and serve us"?

i wonder why the loss in translation for me? i was indoctrinated at the least to believe in the constitution in school, and how being an american in itself is agreeing to protect said.
alot of people are praising these policing movements because it makes them feel better about some obscure weakness in their self.
"finally that strong confident man has to tether himself to avoid my feeling insecure or anxious. what a relief!"

Ok well when roit police show up at your block party lets see you just ignore them and have fun like normal. Worse yet, your kids. Remind them to be passive and that it's for their own good.

Dude, i don't know what drugs you've been taking to have this view of the UK, but it's a fascist police state, the odd party get's through, the majority get shut the fuck down by whatever means.

I mean that is hardly a lifetime ago ;) Just because these days we are sheep and just walk away, if the police say no to something, and it's ignored, they will break out the shields. There was a story in the news a bit abck about police trying to evict a squat, which turned into 150 police in riot gear charging around the neighbourhood until something silly in the morning.

Unnecessary police presence has been shown time and time to end up causing more harm than good.

The biggest difference between the UK and the USA is that in Britain the people are completely powerless, they have no way of defending themselves against an attack by police, therefore they don't even put up a struggle. People in the UK have never revolted and do not have it in them like the Americans do. Can you even fart in the UK without a camera recording all of it for posterity?

We have completely and utterly overwhelming numbers, htat is the only weapon you need against the government. There is no need for guns, and as has been shown, you all have these guns and these rights and whatnot, but i don't see ay of you holding a policeman at gunpoint when he is in breach of the bill of rights etc. I've often wondered the point of them. And we have certainly revolted we've had our civil wars, just on the whole everyone goes home at tea time, i odn't understand how only the arabs understand that the government and the police and the army can't do jack shit against the masses. Oh, and surveilance in the US is hard;y any better than in the UK, i mean you just renewd the damned patriot act

That video might not be prepresentitive of all parties but niether is the US video, either way i've seen contless parties closed down fairly fast. And no, that's not the stpry i had read, this wasn't about a party, simply a squat eviction which ended up with people questioning the police , crowds gathering and bam, the dogs are running.

what so if we had guns it would be right for us to chuck bottles at police?

theres plenty of football supporters that happily do that and nearly all of them dont have guns

We're all in the same boat, and people in the UK do stand up for themselves and riot a whole lot more than we ever have even without weapons, so you can't say they have anything less than we do.

Shit we have the right to keep and bear arms but we let it get so pissed away you can't actually carry anything more than a nail file in most states if that.

LOl you have never been to the USA have you? I can walk all over my city and the only camera being operated by government are the cameras on the government buildings, otherwise only private concerns own cameras. in the UK The government has multiple cameras on ever single street corner, hundreds of thousands of cameras that pan tilt and zoom are used by UK officials to watch the citizen. The Federal government does none of that here. When they surveill you here they do it in secret, that is what the patriot act authorizes, otherwise the Constitution prohibits the government from interfering with privacy.

Doing it in secret does not make it better than doing it openly

And yes, i've been to america a couple of times. Have you been to the UK? I've not a single camera in the whole neighbourhood other than shop cctv.

And you do know that security in the states is hugely outsourced to private companies who do not have to stick to certain protocol and rules and oaths that government officials do.

And you're now just lying, that is a generic photo splashed all over the web, in fact first google result for surveillance camera, such as it's namesake.

Just remember, those cameras will be in stations, that kind of thing, not in every single street

America is little different to the UK, learn to accept this, your mission statement seems to be that america must appear superior..
