Was looking into T5s, I don't really know much about their output, about how many plants could one grow with a T5 light of these dimensions 20"Wide x 49" Long x 2 1/2" Deep, with 6 bulbs.

Heres the light I was checking out.

T5

Thanks

You could keep 3 mothers under it or grow about 30 plant sog style. I grow 20 under that same type of fixture except I only have 4 bulbs. They work great just try to keep the plants short so they are perfect for sog.

T-5 are bad ass :hump: Check out htgsupply.com and look at their t-5 setups. They are definately no joke!!!!

I use MH and HPS but am tempted to get T-5's for a mother room or veg/clones

Ah, can someone fill me in on SOG, so in conclusion the T5s are not the greatest for flowering or what?Im trying to figure out if I want a 400w HPS or the T5 really cant decide, theres benefits to both. The T5 is just so compact and dont have to worry about heat/energy as much but with the HPS im assuming much better results? So I could end up growing 3 decent plants under just 1 6 bulb T5?

i veg under 2 four ft 6500K Sun Blaze T5's and 4 26 watt CFL's. Those lights are the right spectrum for vegging, seedlings and clones. no good for budding though, for budding you should be in the 2100 to 2700 spectrum. if you dont have money for both, buy a an HPS for budding and a bunch of 6500 cfls for vegging. if you look around you can get cfl bulbs for $2 ea on sale. i vegged 12 plants from seed, each in 1 gallon buckets, 6 to a row under 2 T5 s and 4 CFLs. worked awesome! HTG Supply is reputable, i bought a 400 w HPS with remote ballast and relector for around 150 delivered, no issues.

you can buy 2700K replacement bulbs and bud with them as well, but an HPS will be cheaper and work way better. plus if you swap the bulbs then you need more ballast to put the 6500K bulbs in so you can continue to veg or clone.

are your looking to go from seed to harvest in one spot? what size space do you have available? soil or hydro?

High times tested the T-5 against the hps in flower and the t-5 for flower was small bud but sticky/fluffy. And the hps was big/dense not as sticky.

The room I am planning on using is 5Wx10Lx7H. It currently has a ceiling fan that vents to the outside(probly 50 CFM) the room is 350 CF. I was looking to have one light with maybe 2 sets of bulbs(HPS/MH or T5 6500k-3000k).

in my research, more research and experience there is one real answer that is best here for yields.

HPS best for flower Min. 400watts.
T5 works well for veg./clone/seedling.

A combo hps and t5 (maybe 2- 2 fters. for flexability vs. 1- 4 fter) will be best for value/electricity usage etc.

Go to utube.com and search author Urban grower and watch his videos of legal growers. Great learning tool. All are using HPS for flower. None flowering with T5. T5 can be used for flower on a budget and do ok/well but never duplicate a 400 watt hps. or higher.
Also T5s take longer to grow a full grow so ad weeks to the grow...

im so dope: thats a huge room! you could do 12 from seed in 1 gallon buckets, then you should end up with about 6 females and you'll have nice full size plants, remember to top them when they are about a foot high and still vegging, i'd veg for another week or so after topp'n. that'll get you some monsters. Or you could do a see of green, tons of smaller plants but they mature faster and save space cause they dont grow as tall. But for that you'll need a few moms thats are confirmed females and clone the shit out of em.
one light light huh, if you havent started buying stuff yet i'd recosider and have 2 lights. Personally I would have a small veg cabinet with a couple t5's ($30 ea) or 6 or so cfls- ($40 with fixtures and cords from the H Depot). 6500K for veggin. For budding you can p/u a 400 watt HPS for 150, with everything you need including bulb right outta the box.

MH is a waste of electricy for vegging for the same results as t5s or cfls IMHO. 430 w MH VS 2 x 40 watt T5s and 4 x26watt (100 watt eqivalant) you end up using just 184 watts for the same results as 430 watts, consider its on 18 to 24 hous a day as well.

i suggest budding at 2100k to 2700K instead of 3000K, its a better spectrum - for a couple hundy you can have to sets of lights (hPS and t5/cfls) for the same price as one light with two sets of bulbs.
You can bud with 2700K CFLs or T5s but they are no comparison to a HPS.

hope this helps bro- good luck

2 40 watt 2 footers are still 80 watts, double the consumption of 1 40 watt 4 footer. the ballest still draw the same juice. but they do offer more flexibility
i'm not an electrician but i think thats how it works.

i wonder if you used both if they would be bigger, denser and stickier than either way alone????? they shoulda tested that too.

did they do a smoke test????

the big question is.... T5 or MH for mothers...... or at least i'd like a solid answer to set my mind straight.

for veggin... T5's NO QUESTION!!!!! same quality, less power consuption. unless you do basement grows in the winter and you need the extra heat.

sorry i'm being a thread hog! just got baked and came outta my grow room. 12 days into flower under my 400 w HPS and i have 5 confirmed females and only 2 males so far! not bad outa 14 plants, so i have 7 left to sex, one more looks like its leanging towards male. I be physed if i ended up with 8 fems outta 14. Two are KUSH, the rest are bag seed. i killed to male kush tonight to.

I agree with everyone else, thats a big room and you can do different veg and flower sections.

For the veg, you can use t-5's or t-8's. Wal-Mart sells "undercabinet lights." They are basically t-5 and t-8 bulbs in little plastic fixtures. The two foot lights range between $6.50 and $9.50, depending on the size of the bulb, and the spectrum. You can start your young plants under 2 or three of those, and just buy a few more as they get bigger. Thats how I did it. I started out with 2 t-8's (in working fixtures) that cost $6.50. Now, a few weeks later, and for less than $100 I have 2 veg light fixtures that each have 3 t-8 and 2 t-5 bulbs.

For flowering, for sure go with the HPS. You can use the money you'll save by shopping at Wal-Mart to pay for the HPS light.

Can you believe anything High Times anymore, they said last year was it that, the LED light was far better than HPS and now a T5 doesn't compare ????? A T5 will blow that little LED light out of the water hands down.

How many T5 bulb were they using ? Were they the 54 watt HO ones ?

They have good prices on T5 and bulbs.

I'm pretty sure those bulbs from econolight are not the best bulbs. Although they are 54 ho's they are not in the 6500k range which is the best for vegging. Also those bulbs from walmart are probably not even t5ho's they are just standard t5's. This could be a big reason why a lot of people think t5's suck. They buy the wrong ones.
