my only input : make it bigger :eyesmoke:

Personally I was parano about burning my house down with HPS and I hope you got the venting dialed in because it's gonna get hot in there!! I use LEDs so my suggestion on light fixture would be LEDs...

I think you'll struggle to break that into 2 areas - I'd use your stealth dresser for vegging, then this area for flowering. Remember that you're going to need to get in there to tend to your babies and you don't want it to be too much of a pain to do so.You might be ok with a 250w HPS in that space, but just ensure whatever you do you've got some good air circulation...

100% agree, exactly what I was gonna say. I learned this lesson the hard way, and my space is considerably taller (similar footprint/ceiling shape) AND I was only trying to get to one grow. You really want to keep accessibility a priority so your plants don't get neglected by laziness... imho.

On that note, if you do insist on getting both spaces into that one closet, your best bet would be two very narrow grow ops side by side, and not too deep to reach over to water everything.

Honestly, just having to hunch over or crawl to get in there would really diminish my growing enjoyment... I think your best bet is to maximize using as much of the closet as you can from the doorway... meaning work close to the door, not close to the back wall.

If you're going to use the whole footprint, I suppose you'll have no choice, in which case I recommend you design some rolling carts of some sort to make it easy to pull your plants back out of the crawl space to water... this is your best bet as far as accessibility is concerned in such a space. Especially if you want to make two spaces. Technically it might be possible to subdivide the space halfway back and make a cart that rolls out from behind a 'curtain' of panda film' that divides the two spaces... but personally, rather than try to ensure light isolation and good ventilaton in such an awkward arrangement, I would use the rolling cart idea and fill the whole closet for one setup, flowering.

Edit: Here's a pic of my rolling carts in a similarly 'long and narrow' eve closet:

Thanks to these new additions to my arsenal, I don't have to hunch under or raise my light to water... just roll the cart out for a minute, water up, and roll right back into place.

Just one more thought on lighting: definitely don't go HID unless you are prepared to integrate some serious ventilation. And if you go that route, make SURE to get the ventilaton dialed in first... that is a REALLY tight space for the kind of heat even low-wattage HIDs throw (imho)... I would recommend either T5's (works well for large surface areas with limited overhead space) or definitely go full LED when you can afford that, with CFLs as a temporary solution just like you said.

OOOhhh... sliding.... now there's a thought! That could be really useful in an area that small. You'll want to be able to get in to the taller bit, so maybe you could consider LST and then just grow the plants horizontally almost... could be a idea?AltarNation is right on the money though: to maximise your growing pleasure you need to ensure you can easily get to your plants... you don't want to have to crawl in there really carefully any time you want to go and talk to them :)

Just to dovetail along the idea of rolling your plants in and out, you might consider digging a trench or two through the middle that you could put your "track" into so that you can get a bit more height out of the space. Seems like even an extra foot would make sure that you got all out of your 4 ft of height. You'll likely need some more height later on, so you may want to plan for it now and it could give you some more flexibility in your light choice. You can dig a small area by your walls to see how far your foundation goes down. Of course if its at the level of the foundation, you'll want to keep your trench away from the walls. Good Luck!

i dont mind climbing in and out... i will only need to tend to them once a day or so not a big deal for me... im contemplating using the dresser for just veg and this area for just flower now but i kind of wanted to eliminate the dresser completely as this crawll space is behind the wall and the dresser still emits noise although it is 'stealth'

will post pics of progress in a few

I tell you what I like what I`m seeing out of these new type leds that use 40w to 100w chips and just have 4 leds I got some in today

Bam they will give you 2000 on the light meter at 1m I`m sure they still hit around 1800 or more at 2m

No heat, pretty quiet

I`d be willing to put one up against a 600w hps but seen as really they are just 275w I`d grab a few cfl`s maybe 1 x 105w 2700k

I`d say 6 decent plants under one of them no problem with a few cfl`s hell if it was someone else`s grow I`d risk 10 plants lol !

Kona, what kind of pricing are we talkin about on those new LEDs? I haven't heard anything about those yet... sounds intriguing...

In that space I would try to make the most of it but 4 ft tall isn't much to work with.. Me personally I'd use a 400 watt cool tube and work it out from there. That's me tho and I'm sure some won't agree but I've done grows with hps systems in small places and I've seen plenty to know its possible.. My first grow tent was a homebox s which is 30inx30inx5ft with a 400 and temps were steady at 80-82 the whole grow.I would start the veg process with cfls and work my ventilation issues from there. A good oscillating fan in there and ducting for the cool tube you'll be fine with a hps system!

2 150w's sounds reasonable... to be clear, definitely wasn't saying that HPS isn't possible in there, just sayin you gotta make sure you get ventilation right and temps dialed in because with so little overhead space it's gonna get hot fast. Keep in mind that eve ceilings are kind of deceptive to the eye... that is a seriously small amount of room for air circulation near the top corner.

But, 4.5 ft tall total, it's definitely a workable space... don't know how you're planning to grow but if they end up getting too tall you could kinda diagonal/side light from the angled roofside towards the tall side and get the plants up against that wall to maximize height potential... (though I'd probably scrog shorties instead)

Are you going to run 150w's uncovered or in cooltubes? I feel like with cooltube glass cutting the light a little I'd go with a higher wattage bulb... or do the 150w's uncovered...

Well UK I spent around $300 usd per light with postage may have been more like $310 think it was around the £500 mark for both but my guess is one would probably take the place of a 600w hps for sure yeah it`s 3 times the price but there`s no heat and it`s got thermal protection and should last 5 years easy.Hang on I`ll dig out pics Sorry been a bit busy.......................1st pic one of the new lights running solo its around 1m from the light to the floor, well its a shelf really 2nd pic is my light gauge at 70cm with just 1 light running 3rd pic 2 x 300w leds + 2 x 104w 2700k cfl + 1 x 28w 12% uvb 2700k cflThe lights have their own little thread here https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/584986-i-got-my-new-vanq.html hit me up on here too just IM me if I forget to check this thread there pretty nice for a bit more money I think they could do any colour mix you wanted but I went with just red and blue @ a 5:1 ratio and 45mil leds the biggest they had with 90" lens`s.The light output and penetration makes a 500w blackstar look weak and puts my old 300w panels to shame even if them old panels can still flower a plant really well.I`ll admit 2 of them is kind of over kill but hey means I have a spare better then the 3 500w blackstars I was going to use lol
