Need help resolving debate over how to add moisture to over dried buds

So, a friend of mine that grows outdoors (as do I) always tends to end up with plants that have been hanging for a bit too long. As a result they are dry, like crispy/brittle dry. He is an older fellow and thus has grown for many more years than I have...which means many years of this over dried bud issue. The way he has resolved this problem over the years has been by placing the dry buds in a rubbermaid container, misting them with water, placing the lid (loosely) on overnight and removing the bud in the AM if it is moist or adding another misting if it is not.
I know there are probably better methods out there (lettuce, fresh fan leaves, etc) but he will use this method regardless so lets not argue about that here. What I am wondering is not whether misting buds with water will moisten them but if spraying water on these super dry buds has any ACTUAL negative effects. Is it more harmful than other methods in specific ways? I know the best thing to do is just not let bud get over dried...but his always will be and I want to know if this old habit of misting is actually harming his buds. Any info based in fact/experience that helps resolve this would be much appreciated.

hmmm... no posts yet im eger to hear what some have to share..
I have read that re moistening will not save your buds if overdried. if your trying to get that taste and smell that you lost from over drying back by remoistening , i dont think it will happen. But if u simply are remoistening jus for a nice even burn and texture of the bud ect. then thats dif.. i personally wouldnt fuck with it because of molding and shit. If anything i would use fresh fan leaves or bread.

spritzing with water = asking for mold..simple as that...

Remoistening dried bud is like remoistening dried tobacco(I've had the cover left off my tobacco container drying it all out on many occasions)...I take a paper towel and get it sopping wet, stick it in a plastic bag, then stick that bag in whatever container the tobacco is and the paper towel increases the humidity up to 100% and doesn't take more than a day to remoisten the stuff :D

you could try putting it in a air tight container with some orange peel or some other fruit peel , get a humidity meter, put enough peel in a box with the humidity meter so you can see the moisture in the peal is enough to raise the humidity in the air tight box to like 70% , then put the bud in there, but dont let it come into contact with the peel
leave it check it in a few hours
who knows it might work lol :)

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER... ive over dried before and have done the paper towel trick but in a rubermaid like your friend ( 22gal. to be exact) ... i wouldnt get the paper towel sopping wet, but good and moist and cover the whole entire top with the damp towels. I also do not put the lid on completely... I leave a little air available and stick in my garage over night or for a couple days, however long it takes... Here in the Pacific NW we get a lot of rain so the moisture in the air helps...

I've tried using a moist paper towel and ended up with moldy bud, I have had good results using orange peels. This was for a small amount not sure what the best way to add moisture to a large amount.
