I am a new secretive grower and used some bag seed and generic pro mix and fertilizer to try to grow some bud. I failed miserably and over fertilized my plants about 8 weeks in... tried flushing and translated but failed... so I'm starting over... I'm trying to keep it simple with a bag of happy frog (51Qt.), and I have an 8qt bag of perlite. I brought the 3 bottles of fox farm nutrients and the up/ down ph adjuster for my water. I got some quality seeds from a seed bank (strawberry kush) and want to try again... my set up is a follows:
3x3 grow tent in closet
4 inch fan w/ carbon filter venting to crawl space
Two 9 inch fans to circular air
1000W Gixxer LED light

I was going to mix the happy frog soil with perlite (51qts soil with 8qts perlite)... will this be okay to go from seed to bud???

Should I use the 5 gallon cloth bags or 5 gallon pots cause when I tried to flush before, the bags didn't flush well and I got fungus on the outside of the bags...??

What feeding schedule should I use with the nutes I just purchased???

I have also got some cal-mag, how should I use that???

How high or low should I hang my light???

I have been reading for days and am more confused now then I was when I started this journey...lol...

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated... I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can. I'm trying to impress my fiance with some quality bud when this was over but my first grow attempt with bag seed started off great but went down in flames. I by test replanted them again to try to save them with a total of 5 plants left... I want to cut it down to only 2 plants but don't know their sex yet...lol... sorry for the long post but I'm desperate and have to much $$$ invested to turn back now... Thank you in advance for your help...

Attached are some pics of my bag seed before I trimmed off the burnt leaves and transplanted to 3 gallon grow bags of you want to take a look... Thanks again...

Hey bud my advice is to ditch soil and go coco...it’s perfect for beginners... iv done soil and switch to coco will never grow without it it’s so simplistic... grab a bad of coco and I’ll walk you threw your grow start to finish also u need a ph pen and a ppm pen don’t cheep out on them trust me. The hannas are very nice for the price their 40$ each on amazon also grab some ph calibration solution you’ll need the 7.0 and 4.1 don’t buy a ph pen that uses anything Else for calibration I know 80$ seems like a lot of money but trust me when I tell u you...you need need need them

Less is more in soil, some have a lot of food in them to start. It’s much easier to add more than to have too much and have to flush the substrate. Although soil is a great buffer substrate for new growers it also takes a lot longer to respond to deficiency corrections where as in soilless mediums deficiency can show much more quickly they also show correction much more quickly

As for your other questions I’ll try to address them to help you out.
When your using nutes you have never used before start off with 1/2 the manufacturers recommended strength and make adjustments from there.

for the cal mag question. If your using R/O, distilled than you will have to add cal mg if your using city water then a tiny amount or none depending on your water.

as far as how high to hang your light go an inch or two higher than the manufacturers recommended height, make adjustments from there if your getting stretchthwy Go down if they are burning and causing heat issues they go up. Use the back of your hand at canopy level and see if it feels hot if it hurts your hand it will hurtyour plants

fabric pots are better than plastic pots, plastic pots are much easier to water and flush. But fabric pots allow more air to the substrate and air prune your roots causing root growth in all directions instead of roota Wrapping around the outlines of your pots. It’s also a little harder to overwater in fabric pots.

some additional tips: make sure you let your soil dry out well before watering again.

Ph your water 6.2-6.8 for soil

temps 72-79 F. Humidity 50-60 %in veg and 40-50% during flower
Have good air flow in your tent especially during flower.
Have fun and relax if you don’t enjoy it what’s the point!!

Hey man the important part is you're not giving up!!! Having said this I personnel would not start out in a 5 gallon bag but to each their own it's just harder to control till they are 4 or 5 weeks into veg but again that's just my preference...

Before the OP goes down the coco road, he should know that coco requires watering every single day, maybe even twice a day if I am not mistaken.

This is the reason I avoid coco, I am disabled and cannot physically water that often.

Growing in dirt is fine if you follow some basic rules and don't over do it.

Thanks...I will get it
Whoa buddy slow down lol. Im not saying the person is wrong but dont just go and buy the first thing someone suggests. Stick with one thing and dont get tripped up. Soil is more forgiving and is generally the way to go for beginners, if you fuck up in coco, the screw ups will show fast and hard. Start with one plant, with the light that you have, its not the best but it will do. Go with simple nutes, three part is the most you really want to go as more on top of that just gets confusing.
Take your time, make sure every decision you make feels right and that you researched it pretty well. Dont just take the first bit of advice and run with it, research other sources.

I'd recommend just sticking with soil. With the happy frog you probably won't have to check any ph or ppms or any of that, very easy. You most likely won't even need the ph adjuster. I haven't touched my ph once in 10 weeks of growth and everything is beautiful. You don't even need the foxfarm nutrients until the plants like 3 weeks old because happy frog has nutrients in it, and then you can start giving it 25-50% of the recommended feeding on the bottles. And water enough that 10% runs out of the bottom every time

I have to respectfully disagree with the part about not having to check ph in soil. I kept having calcium/potassium problems and was in a constant struggle of trying to figure it out, especially since i am using dyna-gro and i know its a complete nutrient. Come to find out the dyna gro has a pretty acidic nature so it was acidifying the roots locking out the two, swinging between one or the other.

I would absolutely suggest, at the bare minimum, checking to make sure whatever you put in for nutes isnt wildly off and is at least near 7 or 6.5, or you will eventually have problems. Mine kept popping up in flower which was even more maddening.

Ah well I've never used dyna-gro. I'm using megacrop (switched from GH 3 part) for the first time and it's genuinely been so easy growing in promix/coco that I may never change again

ah ok. I actually just ordered some protekt to help balance it out so ill probably get to that point eventually. I am not familiar with megacrop so it may have buffers in it to help balance it out naturally. I dont even know if OP is still around reading this, but i just wanted to make sure some one new who reads this, to take heed about ph. If you have the right media and nutes, you may not have to check it, but unless youre sure its advised to ph it. Cheers

yeah maybe i've gotten lucky and everything i've used has had buffers. i started with advanced, tried gh and gh organics, now megacrop and i never had ph issues with any of them lol
