i use nutrients in parts, i have calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, mono-potassium phosphate, magnesium sulfate and trace element mix. i can control exactly what i feed and the plants love it!

I'm not ingnorant. No real grower would fool with those mixes. Plants are plants, they output their best when you give them what they need. Read the labels and understand the percentages. Check out the differences between ingrediant content (biggest thing is you want more Nitrate Nitrogen than Ammoniacal Nitrogen because Ammoniacal leaves a salt build up). You'll see it's all in the GH FloraNova line from the start, no mixing needed. Plus the GH FloraNova line takes so little (2 teaspoons for a 1200 ppm) that it really winds up being one of the cheapest. Add the crazy cost of those other things, that just balance out to what GH already has in it, and it really chews into your profits.

Oh, and when it comes to potentency, my stuff grown with GH has always been the strongest I've ever had with buds so fat and juicy I have to worry about mold growing in them before harvest.
I agree completely. A plant can only metabolise so many nutes at a time. The rest just become salt build up in the medium and eventually just rinsed down the drain. Money wasted.

I use dtw. It's the only way you know your plants are getting the right blend of nutes. In a recirculating system there can be nutes not being used that just stay and build up while other nutes are being used and not replenished.

Hope you just mean hydro because when you have your soil mix tuned in. Ya you may lose a bit of yeild but what you gain in flavor, worth it IMO. Gotta remember plants, well most plants that is, grew in dirt many, many years before we came up with adapting them to hydro.

I totally agree!

I use hydro, because the plants are just so freaking fast.
I am jealous though, soil grow would be nice if i could get away with it.

I suggest switching your base nutrients to Aqua Flakes A&B. It is much cleaner in the rez as well as in the taste at the end. Switch out Hygrozyme for Multi Zen by H&G. It is cheaper and you use less. Everything else looks right on but you should add Drip Clean which flushes the entire time you use nutes which means less flushing at the end and no flushing in between changes. You should also add H&G Bud XL. It is an enzyme which actually extracts oils and sugars from the stalk and leaves and puts it into your bud. It is a must have for getting that super sticky harvest……. Peace and good luck

You've got to be kidding me! I think I've finally heard it all.

There are some new things going on which you must not know about....keep an open mind and you could learn some things. Do some research. The proof is in the puddin.

It's that kind of nonsense that gets you people to spend $200/gallon on garbage. Extracts oils and sugars and puts them into the bud? House and Garden may have just surpassed AN on my total bullshit meter.

Research? Ok.

Bud XL

A truly powerful flowering enhancer, House & Garden’s innovative late bloom additive is designed to drive sugars from the plant leaf into the fruit. By doing so, the yield, robustness, and sweetness of the harvest can increase exponentially. Bud-XL helps to extract sugars from large bracts, allowing more sugar and energy to be concentrated on fruit and flower production.
Derived From: Ammonium Nitrate, Nitric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide
http://www.canr.msu.edu/vanburen/e-896.htm
Ammonium nitrate (33% N) is decreasing in popularity because of storage problems associated with fire and explosive hazards. It is an excellent material for many purposes; however, one-half of the N is in nitrate form, which makes it immediately susceptible to potential leaching and denitrification losses after application. Calcium ammonium nitrate is a mixture of ammonium nitrate and crushed limestone. Neither of these materials should be used for fall application.
Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic potash, is used to a limited extent in the production of liquid mixed fertilizers. The present cost of producing potassium hydroxide has limited its use in the fertilizer industry, even though it is a very desirable product due to high solubility and low salt index.

Nitric Acid In Fertilizers
Ammonium nitrate, an excellent fertilizer component, is made by mixing ammonia and nitric acid. It is one of the basic chemical ingredients in the fertilizer industry. As a matter of fact, approximately 80% of the chemical is used for fertilizer production.
I guess there's gotta be pixie dust in there too which isn't listed on the label because this overpriced garbage is nothing more than a source of nitrogen and potassium.

Homebrewer: I like that many growers now are looking past the garbage marketing, senseless hype and false claims that some are putting onto their products. I really just want a simple nutrient schedule that costs reasonable, gives our babies what the they want and need to achieve their full potential. It really is just nutrients, minerals, vitamins (some products have aminos too)..

Why don't we just buy the base materials and make our own darn nutes on the cheap!? I'll buy the 50lb bags of 'stuff' and ole it out 10lb at a time to other growers that want to do the same. Most of the bulk fert compounds are dirt cheap (pard. the pun). What does all the marketing hype distill to? The Following:

Nitrogen (N) Phosporus (P) (44%) Potassium (K) (83%) Magnesium (Mg) Sulphur (S) Calcium (Ca) Iron (Fe) Boron (B) Manganese (Mn) Zinc (ZN) Molybdenum (Mo) Sodium (Na) Copper (Cu) Chlorine (Cl) Cobalt (Co) Silicon (Si) Selenium (Se)

I think tht homebrewer has it with using dynagro, which is cheap, lasts many gals treated water, has many of the trace and is really complete by itself, needs to be supplemented slightly with sugars, defensive compounds and such but jeez these other manufacturers..No wonder we're confused..

Whacha think?

If you cannot find it around, get it from the internet, yes you have to pay shipping on heavy packages like nutes, however the price should be rock bottom low as compared buying it in a hydro store (which you don't have around you), so it equals itself out price-wise.

Dyna-gro may be found at some garden centers around you (not sure where you are) as well as some other nutes more geared for regular grows ;) which we can also use for our purposes...

A good site for all around decent pricing is www.greners.com

What about the enzymes? Where are they in your research? Now look, With the job that I have I come into contact with 100's of growers, face to face everyday. From personal growers to large scale to dispensaries and so on. I would say that 80% prefer H&G to any other. So you can babble on as much as you want with scientific info but the fact remains that on the street, that is the consensus...and i don't live in iowa...this is San Diego California. So thats what I mean by...The proof is in the puddin.

Homebrewer, why you so mad? Sounds like you need stronger medicine. Have you tried H&G? or Advanced? Maybe they could help you out. You know if you break down the costs, including additives, House & Garden is cheaper to run than GH, Botanicare, & Advanced. It is very concentrated. Cheer up buddy, you’ll get it….Don’t be so negative….Peace and good luck
