I’m using MH/HPS in my grow tents currently. I grow in 5 gallon buckets using the DWC method. I then scrog the plants. Once I harvest I usually have something ready to go in immediately. I’ve never waited long enough to get enough clones to do a SOG. However a unique opportunity has presented itself.
I am currently awaiting the shipment of a Spydr x plus LED light that will arrive in 1 month.
I have never ran a sea of green before but while I wait on this light I will have enough time to get plenty of clones.
Having a bunch of plants for a SOG in 5 gallon buckets sounds like a nightmare in changing nutrients. I suppose I could go soil but I’m worried about lower yields. I don't want to build a flood to drain or an ebb and flow. I just forked over $1700 for this light so I'd like to stick with either a DWC or soil.
Having said that please consider my situation and comment and advise on the following.
1. How many plants should I put in a 4x4 tent using the SOG method? I read 1-4 per square foot so that would be anywhere from 16 to 64.
2. I’d like to reduce the number of containers. Maybe instead of 5 gallons buckets I could use big rubber made totes with holes cut in them for multiple net cups to reduce the hassle in changing nutrients. Does this sound like a good idea? Do you have a better idea?
3. If I do go with large reservoirs holding multiple plants how much water depth is needed for a SOG?
4. Would it be better if I just did a soil grow for SOG?
5. Any other concerns or advise is welcomed.
