My first grow (with bag-seed to make it interesting too)

Ok ive been a member of this forum for a few years now, i just found it again when i moved off to collage and since i got an off campus place i wanna start growing bud to save money in the long run off of constant buying.

I have like 16 seeds germinating off some bag-seed i got from the half oz i brought up here for the first week (until i find a dealer)

Im planning on making 2 grow boxs (one small for vegging, one big for flowering)

Since i cant start building my boxs for another week (i get money from scolarships / loans from college, lets say ill have alot of extra cash on hand)

Box Size:
28"x21"x55" (l/w/h) - flowering box
20"x20"x25" (l/w/h) - veging box

(at first, for the vegging box, since i need to build that one first and fast once i get my money, i might find a styrofoam box and build a vegging box from that, inspired by another grow journal i read here, then the floweing box, then a bigger veg box)

Lights:
2-4 CFL 5100k 42w bulbs in the veging box (2 on top, possibly 2 on the sides)
6-8 CFL 2700k 42w bulbs in the flowering box (2-4 on top, 4 bulbs 1/3 down from the top on every side)

Air circulation:
for intake on both, holes near the base of the boxs

for exhaust, 1 PC fan at the top for veg box
2 stacked PC fans at the top for the flowering box (probably attach some sort of smell filter too)


With this setup i want to be able to grow a total of like 4 plants in flowering at a time and anywhere from 6-12 in vegging. Around 15" take them out of the vegging box and grow them in the flowering box with about 3 ft of space to grow up while flowering.


So im probably a little too eager to start germinating my seeds b4 i even have my setup started.. its ok i got a blue bin that im gunna cut apart and start the germing seeds under 2 cfls for a weeks or so until i can get my veg box done.

I have done so much reading on other indoor grows with similar designs to this and i saw the results and it made me very happy to see some of the yeilds off of smaller spaces then mine that looked less equip then my design, i know im just a noob to growing but i have high hopes for this grow setup.

Just took a look at my germing seeds, i got 3 sprouting roots so far, maybe by the morning ill be able to plant a few and get this journal started.. i just got one of my fans working, i still need to run out to the store and grab some CFLs. Whats the best thing you can use to cut through kinda thick plastic? (im gunna start with one of those blue storage bins you can get at target, but i need to install my lights and my fan)

Use a hot razor blade. Works like a charm!

built my temp veg box in perfect time, the seeds are starting to break and show roots (the 6 in the bottem right on the pic).

I gotta pick up 2 CFLs for those lamps on the pics, they sadly still have the heat producing shitty light inside of them (from lava lamps) and im gunna need to start planting the germing seeds soon (hopefully in the morning).

I spent like an hour using a kitchen knife, scissors, and my comp finding guides to make sure im was doing everything right.. and i did. It was all relitively easy too, sadly i had to disassemble a perfectly fine, working computer for the fan tho, oh well, atleast i got a completely free vegging box.

uhg lights annoy me, i have had 2 problems so far with them today.

i couldnt find 23w 5100k-6500k bulbs for vegging so i only could get 2 23w 2700k bulbs. so then i get my two bulbs and get home and.. they dont fit into the lamps because the base is too narrow, uhg.

so then i went out to walmart and found the last 2 socket adapters, another extension cord, and some duck tape.. and tada, it works, now i got 6 planted seeds (the ones that germd) in my grow box.. im so excited

so far ive spent a total of like 13 dollars on this project.. so by the end of it if i get like 1 gram off these plants my investment will be good lol

edit: im thinking since i already have holes cut for those lamps and i just duck taped over it to hold the extension cord in place.. if when i get more money get some smaller cfl bulbs that will fit in those lamps, cut some more holes for the 23w ones and use the lamps as supplimental light

oh btw any1 who wants to post here to give me any suggestions, or ask about anything that im doing, go ahead, i want this to be thread to be open for all to post

thanks, i planted the 6 seeds in small cups of soil this morning, hoping to see a plant sprout up soon, once they start ill post pics again

hrmm, im thinking about just throwing my seeds into 12/12 light when they sprout because i didnt realize that my grow space only really allowed about 10"-15" of growing height between the bottem of the lights and the top of the soil.. im reconsidering mounting up those lamps i have (from the pics) again and borrowing 6 bucks from my sister (i spent my last 6 on cigs) and buying 2 small CFLs and position the 2 23w bulbs i have on the sides (sideways so it doesnt take up as much height) to provide a little more space for the plants to grow and more light for better growth!

2 more of my germin seeds have broken and are showing small roots, 8 plants to start with.. that will be a nice first grow imo lol. hopefully i dont kill them all i have 8 chances on my hands lol

oh btw, i put my babys directly in dirt for to sprout for now cuz im broke, once i get money pick up some bigger pots im gunna get some soil from the store but is it ok for now to put it in dirt while its a sprout and transplant to soil in a bigger pot?

hey troglart I had the same problem today. Had to go to 3 different stores before I could find my 6500ks. i wound up finding them at loews.

awesome, thanks spoony. i have to go there anyways as soon as i get my money to get more stuff for my rooms, and hopefully some of the wood for my flowering box

Another seed broke roots this morning when I checked up on the ones still germinating. now i got a total of 9 out of 15 germinating seeds.. im pretty happy about that ratio. I'm going to wait till tomorrow morning and plant those in my box. Im still waiting on the seeds that i planted yesturday to sprout into my little baby girls that i cant wait to start spoiling with attention and love.. the wait is killing me i wanna see something green pop out of that damn soil and soon..

I had a question about runoff in my little pots, if i dont have any holes in the bottem of the pots (there stitting on my harry potter book so they get closer to the light, lol i wish he could just cast a light spell over my babys) for runoff.. does that just mean i should water less often or should i just grab my knife and poke some holes in?

lol as i was planting my 3 seeds that just finished germinating into my grow box, i was looking and i had another cracked seed with a root starting to come out.. thats 10/15 for me.. happy days

added 2 small cfls for suppliment and moved the 2 big cfls off to the sides pointing to the middle to give it more vertical room to grow, waiting for sprouts off the 6 origional plants, i think another day or 2 for the 3 i planted this morning, and i gotta see if in the morning my little germing seedling has cracked enough for me to pot it or not.. im hoping to have atleast one sprout by the morning so i have something green to watch instead of watching soil and germinating seeds.. i swear when i was younger and knew nothing about growing i got a plant sprouted faster then im waiting now when im serious about it

Just looked inside my box after not checking since i looked thru the plants to see if the seeds were still alive or not, 4 of my plants have sprouted! i guess since its past midnight now that the official start of my grow is Monday 24th, awesome.

Keeping the lights at 24/0 for now to start some minor veg growth before throwing it into 12/12 and just incase my babys that havent sprouted do so at night and want some of that prescious light.. pics in the morning when the plants have some time to get a little farther out of the soil and start growing leaves

Ok so all of the first 6 plants i had potted just finished breaking soil, i just checked after dropping my sister off at class and i see the first growth off of all 6.

I got my wish, i can look at something green instead of the top of soil lol.. i wish i could just watch a video of my plant growing on fast forward so it wouldnt take so long >.<, but its fine, im just happy my plants broke soil tops and are showing healthy growth

I have my harry potter books in my box as a way to get my plants higher to the light, but i think he is also magically keeping my plants alive any healthy (lol jk im not that weird)

aw, i think one of my plants didnt make it through soil top.. 8 out of 9 plants sprouted and had good looking leaves, i had those 8 plants in regular dirt from the ground outside my apartment, the other plant was in soil with nute balls and shit (idk from where i stole some out of a plant growing on the porch), i think it died from over nutrients, i tried digging it up a little cuz i was concerned about why that one isnt growing (i kinda hoped it would grow better then the rest cuz it was soil n not dirt) and all i found was 2 yellow leaves that were starting to seperate with a very tiny root poking out of it, i reburied it fast when i saw that in hopes it might not be completely dead but just kinda stunted and shitty cuz of nute burn (or whatever you call it) then it would eventually grow a bit stronger.. im hopin thats the case but i think i might have a dead plant on my hand

Also, for any1 to answer plz.. for some reason, all 6 of the plants i origionally planted are growing good and got 4 leaves so far except my tallest one doesnt wanna grow that 4th one, and its been out of soil longer then the rest of them.. why is that?

whew, i think i just hadnt watered the questionably dead plant enough or nute shock cuz i tried watering it and fixing how it was buried (i found it under the soil but it had its first 2 leaves folded inward and yellow) before i left for school and i get home 5 hours later and it looks like it got greener, so i think its still alive
