My First Grow: Northern Lights

Hi,

Just found your grow, Subb'ed, looking great. I'm in my 4th week of flower, CFL, LST, SCROG. I will be watching your grow, I will be growing the same with NL from Nirvana after this harvest. A lot of people knock CFL grows but I know it can be done. Keep up the great work. Take a look at my grow if you get a chance.

2011 - 11 - 09


I'm bored so I took some shots.

2011 - 11 - 17

• Added two 25W CFL bulbs so I'm now having a total wattage of 250W.

• I'm planning on putting her into 12/12 in 10-14 days or so.

• Rootbound, underwatering and the late ScrOG-net is the reason why I'm still vegging after 7 weeks.

• Temperatures is somewhere around 28 celsius (82.4 Fahrenheit) which works fine so far.

Took some close-up pictres (pictures 2-4), the best I could do.

I did order two more seeds. Will start a PC grow in the next couple of days.
It seems funny so I gotta try it. And also I've got SO little space to work on here.
Seriously, my apartment is 226 square feet (21 square meter) so I can't throw up any tents, cabins or such things which of course sucks.

It's a girl! Congratz, those 2 lil white hairs are the proof.

I did make the cuts a week ago or two, so now I won't put her through anymore stress.
Just letting her grow to fill up the net some more before putting her to 12/12.

I took a shelf from my closet and cut it with a steel saw.

Used an identic to the second picture (Picture B)

Subbed man. I got one plant going under my 400w hps but have 2 feminised NL I want to pop mainly because the low odour. How you finding smell so far? Keep up the good work!

Looking great. Try waiting until the branch grows a few inches above your screen, then gently guide it to the next whole in your screen. Be careful with the branch and try not to break it, if you do and it is not totally broken off it can be saved easily. I found this proscess woked great for my SCROG. The goal is a nice spread with good even tops and good light penetration.

Since my next grow will be under my legal plant count I am thinking of doing a scrog under my spare 400 CMH.

I'll be watching this one for sure.

The smell has been non-exisiting so far! Really, nothing at all. I bought three ONA Blocks to control the odour for this grow but so far I'm not using anyone of them.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'll do. The plant now seems fully recovered from the topping/FIMing and she's growing real good now.
Will let her fill up the net to 70-80% then put her into flower. I've found LOTS of inspiration frmo lilindian's grow journal

2011 - 11 - 24



Things are going good! Canopys starting to shoot up everywhere and almost everyday I'm bending down stems and tucking in leafs.
Temps are staying at pretty steady at 85 F now. I know, it's not optimal but it's working.
She's growing good and drinking liking hell (a combination of her growing, Air Pot and the high temperature I bet). I'll push her too the right side for some
more days then it's time for 12/12. Probably won't update the thread until 12/12...

Anyway, I've set up a personal yield goal for this grow: 1.5 oz
It's maybe a litte more than realistic, and I'll be damned pleased with anything but I'm counting in the facts that she's been succesfully topped and FIM:ed at 4 times,
using ScrOG-technique and that I am letting her vegging out real good before flower. And hopefully the Air Pot will do it's part too.

EDIT: I have a total of 250W CFL. 200W Red and 50W Blue with reflector.
The lights and the reflector is just 2" over the tops. Pulled it up to take pictures.

Reasonable you think?

Hi. i'm following your growth from beginning. As far as it's going on and with all that training i think 1.5 oz way too little for trying to achieve. I think you will easy get 3 oz (it’s an average for northern lights). Your goal should be 5 oz or something near that.

No need for holding 250w lamp so close. You better raise it up a little and try to lower temp to 80F. I think she would like it better.

Whats the average yield of a NL? I know it depends on veg time etc etc. I plan vegging 55/60 days

Everything looks great man! how much longer till you put them into flowering? You could still fill quite a bit more of the screen up

Woah! 3-4 oz would be the ideal scenario for me to satisfy my own needs based upon how much I smoke and average times between harvests (crops?)!
That must means I'm doing some good work here, huh?

Yeah I actually feel the same way. Have had the reflector hanging a far bit away for some days now to get some final good stretch before flower.
Once in flower, I'll try to have the lamps as close as possible to blast her with the lights!

It's hard to say but I've read many NL grow journals and it seems very common to get 3-4 oz out of a single plant from a 400 HPS without any training.
I did choose the NL mainly because the low odour (still don't smell anything at all) but also for the facts that NL is known to be a pretty high yielder with a low time frame from seed to harvest. And a good and potent smoke of course, he he.

Oh, the quality sucksed on these pictures. I've opened the ONA Block to get rid of the Bio Bizz Fish Mix smell which I use as a foliar spray.
It stinks so bad.
