the fan ducting and filter were on ebay for £50. if u wanted to do it cheaper ive read that if u buy some carbon from an aquarium store (£10) and some jay cloths. u can sew the jay cloth into a pocket and fill it with carbon. then strap that to your exhaust and make sure it has no gaps. apparently it works just as good.

i started like that because i ordered a set of one of each 65w cfl but i got sent 2 6500k. instead of getting it swapped i just bought another one but 2700k. then i saw the 3 23w 2700k for £9 so i got them. but im bored of the slow growth rate i have so i thought fuck it. hps all the way. im in the middle of prepping the new cupboard. im also in the middle of building 2 scrog screens. gonna have 2 different photos going at once in there.
 
wow. just did the maths on how much this 400w hps is gonna cost to run. im on a payg electricity meter. 13.85p per kw. so in using this formula

(Lamp KW)x(Hours per day)x(Price per KWH in $)=Daily operating cost.

i get 0.48kw (400w hps uses that amount) x 18hours per day x 13.85p == £1.19 per day to run one fucking light. lol. i better get at least an oz per plant or im not gonna be a happy man. my missus will probably decapitate me. we only use £10 a week as it is. thats pretty much doubling it. lol all the money im gonna save in growing my own is gonna cost me in electricity.
 
its going well. they dont seem to be getting any fatter at the minute. quite slow progress. ive had a bit of a camera issue i have taken a couple but nothing decent. the buds have a nice fruity smell going on. ive also changed my mind on the hps. its gonna cost far too much too run to be justifiable. its doubling my energy usage just for one grow light. its ok during flowering at 12/12. so just got myself another 65w 2700k cfl and im moving my cupboard into a walk in wardrobe as its a slightly larger space and i can stick a carbon filter in with an inline fan to get rid of the smell as my neighbor complained abut the smell and asked me to smoke a bit less. im also building a custom hood and some side light stands to have the 23w cfls on so i can have lights in the middle of the plants as well as above. im gonna be doing this over the next few days. so ill take some pics and post them as i progress.

the one in the orange pot is my ww bagseed vegging. i topped it a week or so ago to get 4 main colas. took a couple days to recover but as you can see is growing quite vigorously now. the tall plant is my healthiest plant by far. the other one at the same height has some serious mag def that is killing off all the fan leaves. ive given some epsom salts and molasses in the last 2 feeds (epsom only once) gonna juts give her water for the next few feeds and see how she goes. need to get that ww into its final pot so i can start the scrog. waiting on the wood to arrive to build my scrog screen. should be here 2moro though. will post a small drawing of what my new setup will look like :)

Looks like your coming along nicely. I love when they start to flower, It's an exciting time I'd pay special attention to that neighbor of yours. Not sure what your relationship is with him/her but I find that a neighbor that will complain about some smell will sooner or later become more of a bitch about things. Best to get that odor problem in check asap. (Im sure ya know this though, heh).

What kind of camera are you using? Does it have auto focus or some such thing? it looks to me as if it is focusing on things in the background while the foreground is out of focus. I know my camera does this as well. I get a "green square" that pops up and shows me what it is focusing on. In the past it used to focus on people in the background and totally ignore the actual subject!

I hear you with the HPS as well. For the electricity it is going to hog (plus the heat problems it will create for me) it was just worth it to go LED. I dont care what otehr people say about LED, they all have their own agendas. Its, cool, quiet, cheap (to run) and effective. The only downside is a higher initial price. (Which is negated by your first months electricty bill heh). I plan on getting more in the future.

Oh yeah, I know I'll porbably have to suppliment my next grow with some Cal/Mag because with auto's and LED that seems to be a problem. This is what I'll be using: Botanicare CAL-MAG Plus.
 
yeah i hear you with the neighbour. they are a gay couple, both women. they are ok. we share a landing so i just said id smoke less. my inline fan and filter should be here 2moro.

also to try and get more bud for my money i am gonna try big bud auto and double big bud auto, both fem. ordered one of each seed to test and see what i get compared to the ak47. i would really prefer to stick with autos as they require less effort but they dont seem as appealing as a scrogged photo plant. suppose its trial and error until you get the setup that works. really looking forward to the next year or so as i change things up and find what suits me :)

The girls are looking nice and frosty, I love it! Looks like the pistils on one of them are starting to brown as well.

I haven't tried a scrog yet, myself but I plan to in a few months after I get my perpetual auto grow going. I've got an extra tent that would be perfect for a single photo plant scrog.

wicked man, maybe we can compare notes. my ww bagseed is shooting out 4 main colas now so need to get it under the screen asap as i dont want it to over fill and end up going wild. this new cupboard has about another foot of vertical space so its not too much of a issue but would rather keep it low.
 
ive just ordered a 40x jewellers loupe. im gonna pop that on the front of my camera lens and see if i can take some super pics of the trichs :)

lmao! Let me know how that works out. Last week, like a fool, I was looking at trichs through an actual full fledged microscope. I tried to take pictures by focusing ym camera through the microscope. It "kinda" worked, I'd like to see how yours goes over.

I use a macro extension tube, a manual aperature 50mm lens, and the eyepiece of a telescope attached to the front of the lens. Lets me get pics like this....triches.jpg
 
carbon filter and fan arrived today. wow is it huger than i thought. is there any way to make a homemade speed controller?? its really loud lol. does 183 m3 hour. my space is not that big. im pretty nifty with a soldering iron so do be afraid to challenge me
 
just gone into my cupboard and one of my plants looks bad. all the top leaves tips are turning brown and curling up. any ideas?
 
im on 20/4 for these. may do 18/6 on next run to save some power. gonna have 300w of cfl in there so hopefully nice buds :) got some big bud x auto strains to play around with in the near future :)
