Update..

Ok heres some pics of my last plant only 4 ft tall and got more bud on than my christmas tree had! to be honest its a scrauny little plant but the buds are big and the main cola is looking great, im sure this will be a beutifull smoke once ready as it smells really really really nice, did from seedling :weed:

Can't wait !

i know its a little late now haha but you should get those lights WAY closer like 2-4cm 1-2 inches away in a wide open room like that with plenty of air they will be fine . i had my lights like 3 inches and people were all telling me i was stupid so i moved them closer and they seem fine much higher readings on my light meter at the budsites!!! rule of thumb i go by if it doesnt hurt the back of your hand it wont hurt the plant...


ps i want to smoke some of that MONSTER !!!

Another quick thought all the bulbs in that hood can be ran off of 1 extension cord! That will save you on a ton of wires . Cfls draw very few amps check out my hood 16 bulbs one 10 guage extension cord nevr even gets warm!

If you mean the ones surrounding they are that far away as that rack was bent arround my original christmas tree, wich was much wider, i was thinking of rebending it to get em closer to this plant

but to be honest some bulbs were about 1 inch away from some buds on my christas tree and some were like 6 inch away and i noticed no difference at all between the finished buds

I think the only benefit of having the bulbs 1 inch away is during the growing stage to prevent stretching, as my plants have done well just in a room close to them, infact this plant originaly had no bulbs arround it at all when it was growing it was just close to the christmas tree and its doing better than it

Yup i know a simple wiring ring ha ha ha i chose the hard option, but nex time it will be 1 plug 1 wire lol

Lol i had 14 things plugged in there when i had my first grow on the go, the only benifit i found is you can turn each bulb off to control heat issues, but id rather have the 1 wire

Yeah im sorry i never try to sound like a know it all but i guess sometimes i come off like that sorry again . Both of those big girls look good to me so i guess stick with what works .. Maybe get some big beer cans to make solo reflectors for those lower lights i know they look homemade but i know from expierencs (so do you !) that reflectors are the best way to use all the light that those cfls produce!

Hey no need to appologise i didn't mean to come across like i thought you were a know it all lol! All advice welcome, i wouldn't even have what i have if it wasn't for this great site and people like yourself sharing tips, thats why i love RIU!

If you look at page 2 of this journal you will see the home made reflectors i had arround the bulbs, but they acted like tinfoil and burned the shit out of her, i was thinking of cutting beer cans down the middle like you said and try that funnily enough lol. But once this plant is done im constucting a box and painting the inside white, so its not in a big room anymore.

Seriously thanks for the input it all helps!

Im still wanting to look at your grow, how do i look at it again?

Just had a look nice cfl set up bud, i enjoy making my hoods and thinking my way out of problems, i have a tiny black fly problem, they are all hanging arround in the soil, so i just got some sellotape and put a few strips over the pots with the glue side facing the soil, then i gave my pot a little shake and the flys have tried to escape upwards and are now all stuck to the tape ha ha

Love it lol

dude, plant looks insane.. its weird its like just one huge cylindrical BUD all the way up! Like a mutant plant.. when you harvest, please weigh it and tell us how many grams you wound up with.. awesome..
just wanted to give one small piece of advice.. the effective lumens for the plant would be significantly increased if you bought a roll of mylar and let it run (curved) around your whole plant ; it looks like you already have kind of like a frame for that so it would work perfectly.. plus you wouldn't be wasting electricity with a lot of the lumens escaping from the other sides of the bulbs.. just a thought.. nice journal!

Thanks alot man, seriously i don't know how its done so well as it never had lights arround it just above, it was at the side of the christmas tree so got its light from that rack

Once this grow is complete i gotta move everything elsewere as that cupboard is off my kitchen in close proximity to the elec n gas meter not good!

And the place its moving to has a big cupboard bellow for my flower room and above has a nice little cupboard to veg in, im either going to maylar it all out or paint it flat white, but its not as wide so hopefully no wasted light, thanks for the help tho bud and for dropping by

Ha Ha i got no choice, as the lower cupboard is only about 5 n half foot, but the next grow i do in there will be bought seeds, some kinda indica dominant, i don't want no trees anymore lol
