any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

HydoDan,

DIY will be hard as i would like to use it for a commercial application not, for personal hobby reasons.

i need something that i can buy off the shelf whats the best light in the market using those cree 5000k bulbs?

thanks for the help :)

The 5000k Cree is the most efficient to my knowlage, maybe citi is close behind but it all depends on your budget... An exact replacement could cost between $600-1200 in DIY. 600 will get you a decent amount as long as you active cool. Check my signature for a reference on the par output of a DE HPS.

is your grow op "legal"/insured?..............do you need the UL/etl certs? because that narrows it down quite a bit for a 1k swap

@PSUAGRO It's legal i do need UL cert, if possible

@MeGaKiLlErMaN Price is not a concern for us, as one of our engineers has close vendor/reseller relationships with Cree therefore getting cree bulbs will be easy and cost efficient., However we would still need to figure out how many COB's are required and i guess some sort of engineering to perhaps see if we can daisy chain etc..

hence the reason for looking for the best commercial off the shelf product for the moment, but I'm open to new ideas :)

Well, their is no ul listed cob panel/fixture yet.............I know PLC and Johnson are about to this month last I heard? if I would pick the best cob panel for commercial use it would be plc, no question=== rock solid/ip65 tested, not approved yet.

Only UL cert 1k swaps ATM are:

Heliospectra lx60
Nexlight mega
Fluence spydrx plus/ vyprx plus
Osram zelion HL300 grow white
lumigrow pro 650

DIY is the cheapest option, risks included:)

Technically speaking, does your lighting have to be UL'd in a business grow? Couldn't you just fill your building with COBs like any other high or low bay facility and grow them directly underneath the ceiling?

i know in Oregon when they inspect grow sites,, they look at things like,, water rights,, carbon filters in place,, fencing,, security, paper work in order,, never ever heard of them getting out thier magnifying glasses and turning light fixtures over and inspecting the UL cert, nor do they bring in electricians who would know what they are looking at,,
I know some grow sites are hiring thier own electrictions to set things up, and if the DIY cobs were installed by a cert electrician that shold suffice for the county or state

Pretty sure they couldn't do anything about it anyway if you replaced the interior lighting with CXB3590s and just grew under the installed lighting. If they're used particularly in commercial establishments like warehouses and you install them in the ceiling of your grow room and grew under the COB, they couldn't say shit about it, because the plant is still growing and all you need is your hard-wired interior lighting.

well just as a quick primer on LED, if you buy a commercial UL listed fixture from one of the few who offer them, your relationship with cree has limited value for at least two reasons:

1. LEDs have a very long service life (10 years+at 95% lumen maintenance) - chips are replaced because they are obsolete, not because they burn out

2. the fixture you buy may not use cree, and unlike mogul base and DE bulbs, there is not a universal standard. in other words. if you were to buy one of the new UL listed Johnson Growlights models coming out soon, i dont think they are using cree in their design, so youd have your lights and they would need no maintenance and even if cree came out with the best chip since sliced bread next week, it would not be a bolt-in upgrade (nor one that would make sense economically- replace the most expensive component in your system at a high cost to maybe get a few percent edge in return)

the only value of the relationship with cree would be cheap chips if youre going to DIY, but to be honest, the vendors out there selling them now are near the bottom in margin so youd be hard pressed to get them from a cree hookup for much under $35, and even at that price out there they may not be the best value in lumen(PAR)/$ relative to other manufacturers

the only people who care about UL certs are insurers. its entirely an insurance thing- "Underwriters Laboratory".

There are no requirements in the national electric code (NEC) that specify UL listed assemblies that i am aware of

california lightworks is ul listed and is a white-predominant blurple fixture at a VERY competitive price point ($600 for 400W of osram with great logic control)
