Hello!

I have been overwatering my plants so my stick my finger in the soil method doesn't work. So i cut back then i am underwatering them.

Do soil moisture meters work and does anyone use one they would recommend?

Thank you!

If you are in soil, wait longer. Water the plants and lift the pot. Make a note of what it weighs. Wait until you'd normally water, wait another day and lift the pot. Get used to measuring by weight to tell if it's time to water. The inexpensive meters are iffy at best.

I am learning is what is going on lmaooooo.

I put my finger down like 2-3 inches and it's bone dry but once i go down say 4-5-6 inches it's still damp. It's been 6 days since i watered last and they went from looking like they were dead to alive and growing and strong. I never weighed the pot just lifted and they felt very light and i tap them and it sounds hollow and everything... but i need to wait longer is the main thing. I'll figure it out eventually but if i could use a tool it woulda been cool... i will just learn by trial and error :)

Try a watering can that has a rain breaker on the end to start. Properly aerated soil is a big plus, and if using fabric/air pots make sure the circulation fan isn't blowing directly on it causing a dry spot on one side as well. I typically water slowly at first and then wait a few minutes then water some more. Make sure the plant isn't sucking the water back up that runs off of it. Aim for around 5-10% runoff on soil every other watering or so. I always just pick up one side a little of the pot and can tell if it needs water. Floraflex makes a cool drip cap also which you could DIY with a Tupperware lid also. Hope this helps

I do own a bluelab pulse meter which checks moisture content and PPM. This is the best tool to check moisture if you are intent on getting one

I'm also terrible at watering the right amount so I'm switching to Coco, where apparently overwatering isn't an issue.
dr.mj coco from coco for cannabis says that coco mixed with perlite can be watered again every time that the plant drinks 10% of the water in the pot. right know im growing in coco and i over watered 2 of my little girls in the beginning because i had them on the same watering schedule as my big plant but my coco isnt mixed with perlite.... if my coco had perlite i bet this wouldnt have been a issue.

Just wait until the top inch of your soil is dry then water. Moist but not wet. Also depends on the age of your baby's. I always look around the edges of they are starting to dry then so will the rest soon. Then water. Always water around you plant not right on top of it. I like to use a spray bottle.
