Moby Dick vs. Nebula Growdown d(".")b

Believe me dude, sometimes I wish I hadn't decided to do it this way. I prefer outdoor though, and everything I do indoor (late fall/winter only) is geared to recreate that environment. I haven't grown these strains before and want to see how big they are capable of getting, learn nutrient requirements, growth patterns, care requirements, etc so I am prepared for what they need over a long growing season. I don't really have any space restrictions, 90" ceiling height, and I like to experiment with this particular setup, try different things, push the envelope a bit, maybe have a little fun in the process.

Eventually these ladies will be revegged outdoors in the spring and allowed to do their thing beside their newly sprouted siblings/progeny, then the lights go into storage until next fall. The real fun begins battling the elements, bugs, and deer for 6+ months. Then, like you, I can spend five minutes a day with them and maybe a little longer on watering days. Out of sight, out of mind I suppose.

I've wanted to top Moby since week 3, as she looks a bushy scrog dream, but I told myself I would not do much manicuring, use no screens, and stick to light lst for as long as possible. I admit it makes them look wild, but hey I like whiling away the hours during the winter, tucking and fussing. I can't really grow much plant-life outside and my green-thumb gets twitchy if not exercised, ha ha!

Thanks for stopping by and happy growing!

Yeah you're like a lot of people. People like to fuss over their plants and I understand that; it's just not for me. I'm sure your yields will be much larger than mine but I grow enough for my needs and that's all that matters to me. Don't get me wrong I love my girls and I think growing is one of the funnest hobbies out there but I'm just not a fusser. I water them, feed them, give them the light and air they need and I leave them alone to do their thing. I do pop open the door several times a day just to look in and smile.
I'm going to try a water farm for the first time after this harvest. It appears that it is a bit more fussy than I'm used to and it may end up being more fussing than I like but I'm so impressed with the growth and yields people can get that I thought I'd give it a try. I may even do a scrog, so I'm starting to creep into fussy land.
I'm impressed with your grow and I'm looking forward to seeing your results. Speaking of outdoors I'm already scouting for a guerrilla grow site and I'm looking forward to being outdoors for a grow. Nothing like the sun! Keep those thumbs green.

I do have some questions for you. I was considering growing Moby on my next grow based on some of the reviews of that strain. My question is have you smoked it before, if so what would your smoke report be and also do you think it could be scrogged? I've read that some strains aren't good candidates for scrog because their fibers are much softer. Don't know if that's true but that is what I've read. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well put dude!

Once I get them outside, they're on their own for the most part. No bulbs to change, lights/pots to adjust, wet messes, air equip, blah blah, that's why I got out of indoor 3 years ago, except for seeding/cloning/vegging. Once these indoor ladies get full into flower and stop stretching they will be much more to my liking, then I can just stick my head in the door and purge a few times a day. Then again I may sit in there, spin some floyd, do some carving, and watch the grass grow. It is usually my workshop, after all, ha ha!

I could never run hydro as it is just way too intensive for me and I don't have the patience for it. I've spent some time with large ebbnflow (sp?) systems and those are some insane ops whose results you can't argue with, but then it becomes a full time job. Like you I just want to monkey around, have fun, and smoke some killer weed with my friends.

Thanks for stopping by and reading! Good luck on all your future grows!!!

Well, I have not smoked it, but I will let you know in 8 weeks in a report, for sure. (Kev, if you're reading, you've smoked this one, care to comment?)

I think she would be excellent for a scrog, if you are as agressive as she is. Her stem is very sturdy, yet very flexible before it hardens. I have her top bent back past 90* without pinching/supercropping and when released it holds its shape.

I'd top her at 3 weeks, node 5-6, get a 4' x 4' screen, and wait for the strong side branching to fill it in as you top a few more times. At 6 weeks veg I had 17+ nodes with long, strong side branches without topping or support.

She needs >800w/m2 and EC around 1.8 (about 1.7x the nutes, and ph 6.5 in) and she's going to get big, so have a lot of space.

changing klight cycles is never a good idea in flower but happening once wont harm it aslong as it doesnt keep happening..everything should be on a constant schedule

Lots of good info. and exactly what I needed to learn. I think, based on what you've said and what Kev. said, that I probably won't grow it. Actually that's a good thing. I'm kind of disappointed because the type of high Kev. described sounds like it would be right up my alley but I don't have the lighting she requires.
It's good that you gave me the info. I needed to make the proper decision so thanks for that. I've only got about 400 watts to work with and that doesn't appear to be nearly enough for Moby. Is there a strain either you or Kev. would care to recommend for my lighting and a scrog grow? I'm growing some Sativas now and I can't wait to smoke them but I want something with a shorter flowering period; this 11 week wait is killing me.

Well, I've seen a lot of people are using the Nebula in a scrog when they grow it, and I think Paradise even suggests it. She is the same technical cross as Moby Dick (white widowXhaze), just 25% slower, squatter, and not as wide. I think she would be great in a scrog. The bonus with her is she is reported to taste like honey, and I like tasty pot, plus it's won a bunch of awards.

Other strains I've scrogged are ww, c99, bb, bubblegum, orange kush, sensi star, warlock, romulan, nl #5 variants, , skunk#1 variants, motavation, ak47, and a few goofy crosses I made with all of these.

:peace: dude.

Nice dude! Mine are really starting to pop out pistils too and they have such pretty crowns. The huge leaves are killer too, but amazingly Moby's are about 33% bigger than Nebulas! I see you have that same medium green to lime green coloration on the fan leaves. I kept thinking maybe some kind of def or ph issue was at work, but it's all steam ahead.

Feel free to stop by and drop off pics as your grow progresses or drop a link to a journal. Six more weeks to :weed:

Yeah, I had a little mag def early too, and you can see it in her lower fan leaves. I had to up the epsom salts to 1 tbsp per gallon and foliar them for a week around week 4. I tried to back off of the epsom salts, but if I do the Nebula start to show a little mg def again, so I'm still giving them 1 tsp per gallon.

Pretty damn decent....I just fimed 3/5 of my plants today so hopefully I get a fruitful amount of tops out of it!

--> Other than that great, just smoking herb, playing video games, and I start a new job next week.
