"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare," Akin said of rape-induced pregnancy in an interview with KTVI. A clip of the interview was posted online by the liberal super PAC American Bridge.
"If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," Akin continued. He did not provide an explanation for what constituted "legitimate rape."
He added: "But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something. You know I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child."

"I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue," Akin continued. "But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election."

I can't decide which is more appalling -- that he actually believes this, or using the words "legitimate" and "rape" together.

You the people put them there. Ain't voting grand? He wouldn't say that unless a voting base supported his prattling. I bet he gets voted in again.
I wouldn't be surprised if you are right, Not knowing the guy, (in my stereotypical view of todays politician) I'll bet he's not running on more/better education of the populous.

Actually he's a six term member of the House, but running for the Senate this election. GOP were counting on a win with him to gain a majority in the Senate. This could sink him or catapult him, never know with this electorate.

So if someone grabbed a women forced his penis inside her, if she gets pregnant then it is not a legitimate rape because a women's body can stop from getting pregnant if she is really raped... are we to assume that she really wanted it ?

Rapist -" your Honor I didn't rape her...look she pregnant"

Judge- " You are right..Case dismissed"

ONLY IN RIGHT WING WORLD

The real tragedy here is that the choice is between this Akin moron and the McCaskill moron.

Always vote anti-incumbent! Almost always, there are a few incumbents worth reelecting. On the other hand, if we lose a few decent people when incumbents are thrown out in mass, that is a small price to pay.

She is a career politician.

"Moron" is the wrong descriptor. "Icky", "corrupt", "venal", "reptilian", "self serving", "crony capitalist", "an enemy of the people", are all better descriptors. Those descriptions are appropriate for almost all incumbents.
