Smell is a concern usually late in flowering. And the Grill won't do anything for venting because you'd have the cab holes plugged with card board or whatever.

Your cab Must be
Light tight
Proper exhaust, and a light difusal method for your exhaust ports, because if you got no carbon scubber on there light will excape. There are different way to do this, like black elbow piping helps.

I use a Black wall paper soaking tray cut in half and then siliconed over the exhaust port.

Just keep thinking about it, a perfect idea will come.

Be crafty...Any cabinet or night stand can be easily converted for stealth. Keep tossin out your ideas here on the forum, well help with ideas as much as we can.

I saw some diagrams of fan placements and stuff but there are still some questions I have.

1. How many fans should I have?
2. How long should they be running on a daily basis?
3. Should they be running while the light is on or off? Or it doesn't matter?
4. Does it matter how close they are to the plants or in what position?
5. Will proper ventilation help with the smell situation in the room where the PC case is kept in any way?

Do a trial and error, but i'll try to give some
insight.
1. Fans and placement.
Real effective CFL's grows are are achieved by keepin those lights cool. They cooler they are the closer you can have your girls.
Try arranging some main lights that are Fixed at the top of your cab. Use risers to get plants closer. Find a way to have one fan blowing across all the lights, towards another fan that will exhaust the heat. You can either have passive intake for air, or another fan pumpin air in. The fresh air should come in at the bottom. Heat will rise and gravitate towards the exhaust. Roots benifit fron being a bit cooler than the canopy. If there's room, you can have a floating bulb that can be placed at the side for lighting.

2&3.You should always have the fans running, but if you must shut them off, then the night cycle would be best for that. ALWAYS ALWAYS while the lights are on have your fans on.

4.position matters a lot. Bulbs should always be on their side facing the plant. More lumens are produced fron the side than the tip. As far as how close, it depends on the heat up at the top, once again air flow is important. Its VERY EASILY attainable to have your plants a half inch away. However, you'll need to keep watch they dont grow into the lights. 1-2 inches is more realistic for most cab growers. Take a look at the design on the first cab i have posted on this page. That plexi allows maximum closeness, directly channeling heat out the cab.

5. Constant ventalation will indirectly help with smell, haveing fans off for a while then turned back on, will give a strong burst of smell. Build a carbon filter only if you find smell a problem, i generally don't have much problem with smell and small grows.

It means compact flourescent lighting

If you're buying CFL's a suggest you read in the earlier pages of this thread on proper color temp. And maybe pay attentions to wattages. I'll go over it with you if ya get confused.

I'll confirm everything before buying. And yeah, I read over it. Before I go to the store, I'll see if I have any of those bulbs at home already. Either way I need fixtures.

I'm gonna get my space ready and mount everything first.

Here's what I would do.

You'll wanna compeat for every inch of hight you can get, so custom make your pots. Drill dranage holes and cut to specific hight. I'll give my recomended mesurments at the end.

Plan on using lst and topping to keep em short and wide.

Mylar the thing up nice and neat. Those silver looking reflective sun sheilds for car windows work nice, or emergency blankets from a dollar store. If none of that give a few good coats of FLAT WHITE PAINT.

Going for 4, 42 watt CFL lights.
They are Approx, 2 3/4" wide. 6.5" long.
You can use aluminum foil tape with CFL's for the top reflective part. You'll need to mount sockets to the top after, so the bulbs are lenghtwise against the top, but the bulb shouldn't touch. Just a few millimeters is enough.
I would mount in a "X pattern on the top. Sockets to the outside, bulb towards the center. Keep even spacing in mind and how you will position the plants under them .

Because of the shortness, i would say 2 computer fans for EXHAUST. And for air intake i would drill many 1/4" holes in the floor of the cab. (assumin there's a space under there to draw air from.) If not we'll have to work out something else.

You have 15 inches of hight to work with.
-3 inches at top for CFL"s
Make some pot's outta something you find like protien shake container. Cut it down to like 4" make sure it's wider for more roots, shoot for 6-8 inches.

This leaves you with 8" of space for the plant to grow. You'll have to top it after 3rd or 4th node, you'll need to do 12/12 light cycle from seed. And tie down branches to the pots, but it can all be done very easily, and I'm doing it with my own.

i was thinking of doing the surge protector method with the plug in sockets for the lights possibly runnig across the wood in the pics (maybe a center support?) pics 1&2

pics 3, 4 & 5
conneting 2 cfls on each side of pic 3

connectin 1 cfl in the corners of 4 & 5

havin a hard time figuring out lighting positions

That's six cfl's all together....what wattage? Cuz heat will need to be carefully concidered with this small a cab. HOWEVER, your placement idea is a good one.
