MH all the way

I forgot to say that I switched back to using HPS after the first 2 weeks after light time change.....It's almost 50% more effective electricity wise and PAR spectrum wise to MH in comparison.
If you worry about trich production in MH vs. HPS.
Simply add more S and Mg along with a bump in K and you'll even beat what MH does for that!

Doc
That I could see and i'm going to try that later. I do really like my finished buds after running with the MH all the way through with in identical environments and soils.

100ft.....!!! I would guess you would have to move it down along the line or run multiple lights.
Wait,,,don't you run it as a circle or a square? Lights in the center?

Longer lights on times give the dreaded burn factor.....10min tops per hr - three peak hrs......You could adjust from there to experiment....

Doc
Is there something you do to the bulb or something? The lamp is intact as you operate it? I'm surprised it would kill plants from excess UV, yet still be suitable for use 'in sports stadiums or as security lighting'.

Well in a sports stadium, how far are you from the light source?

Yup intact as delivered....

Yes, but the uv dissipates over distance......Repti bulbs only are effective to 18"....
400's or 1Ks are just on a larger scale.....effective distance is (in my guess) ft at best.....Even tanning beds/booths lighting is only effective by inch's.....While it maybe the more, they still have distance limits in UV exposure......

I wish I could afford a spectral analyzer! But it's very costly and would not be used enough to justify the expense.....With it I could figure out "effective exposure" over distance for UV and other cool stuff..

4300W of 860W CDM lamps
144 ft² of trellis space, for 30W/ft²
Fifty ft² of floor space
100 gallon capacity RDWC system
Veg from fresh cuttings to bloom ready is between 10-12 weeks.

Actual yield from the last run averaged 18.94 zips/plant. No CO², high summer temps and a busted chiller limited yield, going for 1.5 per next time:

I could replace the center CDM with a 400W MV, which would illuminate the whole rack- the center two plants would get a bit more than the ends, which would help confirm whether it's making a difference or not.

How long should I run that MV lamp for? I'm thinking of a hardening off schedule, start with small amounts and work up from there.

I'll chime in. I'm a t5 grower. Yea, yea, I know, hid is the best. Anyways, I grow for myself and do not sell. So I am more concerned about quality over sheer quantity. I have noticed that I prefer smoke that has been grown with a lot of blue. What does this mean scientifically? Nothing really.

I just noticed more frost and like the final product better. I run a 50/50 mix of red and blue to get the best of quality and quantity.

I have also noticed certain strains do very well in flower under pure blue while others get too leafy.

I want me some of those hortilux power veg bulbs now.

Anywhere twixt 6-10 min per hr for the 3 top exposure hrs (I would try 8-10 first) or set to run hrs 5-6-7 or 6-7-8 would be where I would start.
You should be able to "see" (trich #'s) and "smell" (stronger) a difference the longer they're used.
I would just hang it above the CDM and they actually run together during the MV on time! Use a digital yimer to set the MV times.

You should take a look at the "deep blue" coral growing lights at the fish/pet store.....Costly but, Riddle swears by them as mixed in with your regular T5 grow lamps....

Check this thread out for more on that....

Look at some threads by @RM3 where he uses nothing but T5 tubes. Some of them are UVB supplementation lights and his grows are killer.

Got my 10k 600 w MH bulb, the one we were discussing, obviously I JUST got it, so i don't have plant pics or anything. all I can say is holy crap is that bitch bright.
Gonna grab my acetylene goggles from my shop, Whew.
My bulb for my hps is has a half grow on it, so it's not as fresh, but the MH is waaaay brighter.. and I didn't even look anywhere near it. I had my shed door open and it lit up the freakin mountain...
I'm curious to see if the UV will help me out on my usual spider mite "tug-o-war".
Course the 2-spot live UNDER the leaves so I have my doubts... maybe with the russets though? Again, I doubt it. I'm actually hoping it may attract some predator bugs, as a lot are attracted to high UV lights, hence the bugzappers using the blacklight
BUT that's not why I bought the damn bulb, I bought it because ever since I used both a mh and a hps together I've been lusting after a 600w mh bulb to run next to my HPS.

I have. That's the reason for me using t5.

I want these.
