I dont believe that you need be a certain generation to be a "true" hippie. To me, "hippie" is more of an attitude, mentality and way of life than an age or any specific group.
And what i said in my op wasnt meant to take the culture away from anybody. It was meant to remind that many others are a part of it...just as hippies are...

I mean if they were the only ones holding up the flame here we would not be where we are now. They are just too small a part of it...
I think you're right in that being 'hippy' is a state of mind, more than anything and not reflective of age. I've met some really interesting 'under 30's' who are living todays version of the hippy life. There are different generations of hippies, I guess, and they have all played a part. I'm not so sure if it was as small a part as you say, but that's just perception. No other group has been nearly as open about its use or defiant of the laws around it than the hippies of the 60's and seventies, imo.
