oh man, i fucking hate fybro... i understand what your wife goes through... im a trainer and sometimes trained individuals with fybro... i used a lot of swimming exercises as it is really low impact on the muscles and joints and still provides a stimulus to the body

my humidity in the grow has been about 45 to possibly 55 percent for a high remainging around the 40s to upper 40s at night (lights off).In the drying room i cant get it lower then 40 to 45 percent where i am at.

Hey there friend. Sorry to hear that after all your hard work, your bud still tastes the way it does. Maybe it's the way you dry your bud? Don't take them off the stems, just clip the leaves and keep the stems so the buds are upside down when you dry them. Also, did you have any pest problems towards the end of your harvest? I would hate to see anybody smoking spider mites lol

I have dried them like you have posted above in a dark room as cool as i can get it which is around 72 degrees with good air flow.I havent noticed any spiders or other critters in the grow room so I dont think this is the problem but then again it could be.I usually cut each stem and hang the buds on that stem and do the rest for all of them, should i cut the whole plant and hang it while would that help any?

Sounds kinda like poor drying. Drying is the easiest way to mess your shit up especially the taste. Poor drying technique will result in the same poor tasting product every time kinda like hay, alfalfa,. Itll still get ya high but the end result is poor tasting and smelling. If its mold you would definitional smell it. Mold has a very distinct smell and especially after jaring it it would be a unmistakably strong scent. Dry product will not mold.

What I like to do to get the best taste/dry is to stop watering a few days b4 harvest if in hydro or a week or 2 b4 if dirt. And this would be after flushing. After the leaves droop and the plant starts wilting I uproot it (very easy in a dwc). I hang it in a dark room with good ventilation and just make sure temps dont go over 88 once the fan leaves are a little dry I trim it and set it out for another day untill the flowers feel dry then I finish drying in brown paper bags (never sealed) till the stem snaps. After this its ready to smoke and or put in to jars and cure, I do both. This whole drying process should take about a week and a half or two weeks. I dont know exactly why this works so good but I have tried a half dozen other ways and few have worked this well and consistently.. I use to always harvest chop and trim the day they were ready with very inconstant results. but this slow death of the plant is better imo

Thanks for that info, this will be the route i try next as i have another crop ready in a few weeks just started to flush it yesterday.

o and when I up root them I dont hang them upside down because it makes it very difficult to trim. I just tie them upright by the hogs legs let the rest hang. This keeps the leaves off the flowers for the most part..

I can't see any mold in your pics, but just check the centers of the buds very well. Try using a loupe or magnifying glass in good natural light, if you don't see any mold/mildew then you should be fine. Purple Kush shouldn't taste moldy or musty at all, so I'm inclined to agree with most of the above. Go lighter on the nutrients, go organic, in soil, your plants (and taste buds) will thank you.

O.k.,we quit smoking the stuff we have as it does make us feel sleepy as heck and gives us sore throats as well as a sick feeling, hoping to make hash or oil out of it instead, its sad but it happened.I have a new question though,my latest plant is near ready for harvest but i have noticed the calyx's on it some are starting to turn yellow in color and look like they may be dying off, some are still green and plump. What does this mean. The hairs are all almost orange but not all have started to curl back into the bud yet so I dont thin its ready yet.Any thoughts on this.

does it get you where you want to be when you smoke it?

i dont know man. but i smoked some bud that was similar to what you describe and i got sick with a cold and a bad fucking cough and a lot of phlegm, im barely getting better right now, but i threw that junk away...

one more thing, im not an expert like some other guys who have shared their thoughts here
That is side effect from inhaling mold spores that you’re describing. Some people are more sensitive. Bud can have abundance of spores and growth that isn’t visible

Old ass thread but it’s mold man. It doesn’t need to be visible. Your bud is loaded with mold spores and that’s why your has the symptoms you had. It’s not a good thing. Some people are more sensitive. The way you described this all makes it clear. The smell fading/being replaced. Harsh taste. The fact that a quick dried bud smells and tastes same as the bud you harvested later. The fact that the trim smells the same. Guarantee if you would have squeezed a bud on one of the plants while it was still growing it would have let out a strong ammonia/lemony smell that may sting your nose and make it burn a little. This is typically something you’d experience when jarring too soon or not burping enough but I’ve had it happen twice now on live plants and my humidity was not high. It’s left me scratching my head as to why this issue has popped up twice. It starts around the 6th week of flower when buds are picking up more size and density. I obsessively smelled my buds this last round everyday and Noticed the smell around the same time as last. About 6 weeks in. Humidity between 35-45 at highest. Good airflow. The good smell starts to fade and a little bit of a musky scent starts picking up. It happens very quick and you can notice a difference from one day to the next. Once it starts it’s all downhill until you harvest . You can squeeze a bud on a plant and your nose will be hit with an acrid and Sometimes stinging smell of lemony ammonia, spicy must. Within a week or so your grow room will have a significantly weaker smell than before the problem arises. What smell is left is musky in the air. Buds will no longer have to be squeezed to give off the putrid smell I described. Just a slight run on the outside will produce this bad smell. It will taste as it smells. Very unnatural smell. For me, if i dry it quickly some of the original terpenes start to come back again and the mold smell dies down but never fully goes away. The original terps are there but altered and it’s harsh. If bud is left to go completely dry over time it smells very musky and sometimes like cat piss. This was the nail in the coffin for me. I was in denial and was lying to myself but when that pissy came on strong again after the bud dried to bone dry I had to admit what was going on. The terps had evaporated due to time and bag not being closed and the only remaining smell was from the mold. The musty cat piss was suddenly back with a vengeance and overwhelming. It was the only smell left. Can’t lie to yourself then. I’ve came to the conclusion that there is a mold issue in the house. There must be a shit load of spores in the air. I pulled back carpet downstairs and see what appears to be mold on carpet pad. Who knows where else there is more. The spores are landing on the buds and when the buds get to the point of a certain size and density they start to stay more moist on the inside with no air flow going into them. This is when the problem really develops. Airflow an humidity seem to be irrelevant. It’s like it’s just gonna happen no matter what with a shit ton of spores in the air. I’ve let it go 3 weeks after noticing this smell before finally harvesting. Never a single visible sign of mold. When smoked, nose burns and taste is altered. I can’t taste things properly for hours afterwards. Also nose feels slightly numb and sometimes runny/stuffy. Sometimes a racy heart. It’s no good but can be used to make butter with as the heat will kill the spores but it does suck and makes no sense. I’ve been very attentative this time around to temp, humidity and airflow. This is the most on point I’ve ever been about it due to what happened last round and bam..same thing. It’s an environment issue that I’m not the cause of is the only thing I can think of. This is a rental and up to landlord to fix. I’ll see if I can make a change and get a different outcome next time but if not I will be moving. I’ll be purchasing a true hepa air purifier, transferring them to a larger space and adding another fan. Humidity will stay below 40% all through flower. A real heart breaker here
