Marijuana Quality Control Initiative

Hello all, I'm a relatively new grower but a long time marijuana enthusiast. My studies in Industrial Engineering have given me a substantial background in Quality Control. My ultimate goal is to translate these tools into the Medical Marijuana Industry. My idea is fairly simple but could blossom into a new standardization for the industry. Here it goes...

I wish to collaborate with local groups of dispensaries around the country to provide a sort of "auditing service". The inspection frequency and depth has yet to be determined. I will eventually need to involve dispensaries in the formulation of this initiative. I will use a company web site to drive the whole operation. The site will be used to post the results of quality inspections of this community of medical marijuana dispensaries. This serves as a sort of accredidation that will keep the market competitive and therefore increase the overall standards for medical marijuana. Dispensaries will benefit from complying from repeat business of the educated consumer as well as a sort of free advertising - up to date inspection results and photos will be posted online.

My question for you all is this....what do you want to know about your weed? Obviously THC content and presence of pesticides are a concern. And of course CBD levels...anything else? anything at all? If you could design a survey what questions would you want it to ask you? All input is appreciated. Thanks so much and happy toking

my concerns when consuming weed or growing it is :

who the breeders are.
how many phenotypes there are
does the picture advertised or any of the phenotypes similar to that picture advertised. (most breeders strains dont resemble pics but i have had some breeders strains that were dead on with the pics. examples are sannies and serious kali mist.
My NUMBER ONE CONCERN WOULD BE: legitamacy of strain or cut or seed. there has been a flooding of the online market, dispensaries with so much bullshit. people just tag on any name with kush, white, etc to make it more marketable when in fact its soo soo far from the truth.
I also like to know yield from what light source.

Legitimizing the advertised strain may prove difficult. I could require that dispensaries request certain information pertaining to the products they are receiving...including the precise breeder. I need to do some research on Steep Hill labs and see what sorts of tests they can run and if they have the genetic codes of specific strains stored on site. This would be very nice if it's the case! Thank you so much for your input though. Sounds like overall you are interested in the genetics. I agree that this needs to be (and will be) addressed. If you know of any other labs that outsource this sort of testing please let me know. Eventually I would like to be nation wide and multiple labs will be necessary

The THC content, as well as CBN and CBD.
The grow medium
Is it organic
How long a flush
Is it good for pain, nausea, sleep, etc.
Sativa dominant or Indica dominant
Number of plants in operation under how many lights is always interesting.....

Hope that helps. Good luck, man. You sound like an intelligent person, and you are certainly an asset to the community.

do you mind adding the pest resistance level, mold resistance level, how long was it dried and cured, the temp and environment it was cured, do you have a separate room when drying/curing, what was the process. normally, if you have experience working in a restaurant place yourself in a position of a health department.

i wouldn't mind adding these things at all. i just want to get as many ideas/concerns together as i possibly can and then i will further investigate tests for these "attributes". i could force dispensaries to have growers submit this information about their products as well. but...the health department view is a good way to look at it. however, due to the legal nature of medical marijuana i doubt i could investigate grow rooms for this sort of "code inspection". i'm sure i could run health code on the dispensaries though! thank you for your input and intuition....keep it coming guys! thank so much
