Manure fert questions???

Well I was wondering if I put manure on top of the soil in my pots would it work the same as mixing in with the dirt? Or is it possible to burn with too much manure to close to the plant? I mixed some soil with digested plant materials straight from deer stomachs and dried in the sun, (Im a hunter so I figure no need to waste it) and it worked great for cucumbers . I'm doing the same thing with my babies but I was wondering in a month or so if it would be okay to simply put manure right on top of the soil around the stem? It won't be possible to mix in without re potting and thats not an option.

Straight manure isn't recommended.
Composted manure should be OK.
An even better idea might be to make a manure compost tea.

Ok would you mind explaining the difference between composted manure and straight manure?

^^^ word^^^ it takes about a year before any wastes from animals besides chicken and lama.. There will be hot spots that need to weather out so to speak .
Now digging OUT a planting bed an throwning a yard or two of fresh manuer would be fine . But fully composted matter is all I work with . The garden is no place for decay...
