Make your own pH probe storage solution

So I got tired of buying the KCl solution for storing pH probes in. They charge too much for that shit. I bought a pound of potassium chloride on amazon for $9.49.

To make a standard 3 Mole KCl solution you take 22.37 grams of potassium chloride and add it to 100 mL of distilled water (I just used my RO since it's at 2 PPM). Make sure that all the KCl is dissolved.

Now you can make your own solution and save money. Not including water cost you can now make a little over 2 liters of storage solution for under $10.

@Renfro Cool... by the way, can you buy the storage solution and 3 stage buffers from Apera direct?
I know Apera sells them on Amazon.

I have over 180 no longer needed pharmaceutical Potassium Chloride 20 MEQ tablets, well over 12 0zs. Any reason I couldn't use them in the formula.

Honestly not sure. Most pills have fillers in them and I am not sure about these or if the fillers would be bad in any way. KCL is cheap so I am not sure it's worth the risk if you have a pricey pen.

So to get more chemistry heads to see it I have made another post regarding a problem I am having making the solution. But I will post here as well for continuity.

I added the precisely measured 22.37 grams of KCLto 100 mL of 2 PPM RO water and I put it on my stirring plate with a lid to prevent evaporation. Set it to stirring at good speed. I checked it the next day after about 10 hours of stirring and it's a saturated solution with some salt that failed to dissolve. Think it's bad KCL or did having 2 PPM of shit in my water really fuck things up that much?

Link you back over to this one for needed details..

Thanks for the feedback, fillers didn't cross my mind. I'll give it a shot on my economy pen, not the Apera.
