One thing you have to watch out for around the led community is that if your tests don't exactly fit the "led is better narrative" if will be criticized and picked apart by those claiming to be lighting experts with no hands on experience.
Take my LED vs MH lettuce test. "put the led closer" the grow bro's say - ya, make the plants even more bonsai!
I will most likely being doing a repeat of this side by side in the future with par readings and more video documentation :peace:

maybe, or maybe way too focused than a t5/8 fluoroscent that radiates 360° + reflector

the way I'm thinking is it puts 1 leaf into high irradiance, next leaf 5cm away gets only stray-light, creating a mess in the internal transpirational pull
+ uneven spectrum, esp. blue-light response can be dramatically paradoxial if overboard

I've learned I simply prefer HID lighting even though I started with LED. It's like telling someone their brand new car was a rip off they are going to get mad cause they spent $20-30k on it. LEDs are still way over priced imo just look at the chinese sites selling the same lights.. All the LED companies are doing is taking those cheap ass lights, putting them in nicer fixtures with better cooling and upcharging the living hell out of people while the hype train is still chugging along.
 
Update: Latest cuttings rooted under the lights but they will not "grow" under these lights at all without malforming, you've gotta get the cuttings under a stronger light immediately after they root. This being said, yeah they'll root cuttings but do not expect them to sit in the tray longer than a week or 2 max or you will see extremely poor/mutated growth..

I love the Luxx 1000w HPS DE fixtures, these LEDs are no good though...

Yeah I know old post....
I started with LED too. I've only used California light works and Timber COB LED's.
The Timber Fatty is an excellent light. But a 600W SHPS that I own produces buds that are denser and more frosty.
I just bought 2 - 630W CmH fixtures with 3100k bulbs. They have dimmable ballasts too so they're variable wattage. Each fixture was new in the box. They were $100 each (growers choice at Grow Generation. I've used 315w CmH previously so I know what they can do.
So for $200 I got 1260 watts of HID light that I can configure how I wish and they provide UV.
I have about $3,500 worth of led's just sitting around now.
No matter the efficiency difference between HID and LED, I'm going to come out ahead with the CmH's.
Not all Chinese LED's suck. However, American companies rebranding Asian stuff and charging top dollar is all too common. At the of the day, I just want great results. So, I'm going to roll with these CmH's on a current grow and see how it goes. If the CmH's suck I'll move on. However, based on the end of week 3 of flower, I think I'm going to be quite happy.
