To anyone wanting to grow along with this you should be gathering startup supplies. You will need the following items from either Walmart or Lowes or something.

2 6500k CFL lights of 32 watts or better for every plant you have.
Some type of fan.
Something to hold water in. I use a 2 gallon watering can
package of red SOLO cups
light fixture of some sort to hold the bulbs. Buy some "y"'s to put two bulbs in one socket. I use work type clamp drop lights.
High nitrogen content fertilizer, like 28-4-4 or close there.
Sand
common cheap topsoil (NOT Miracle Grow and not potting soil)
Perlite

Some pots, 2 gallon

You're gonna need some seeds too.

i can never find y splitters at my walmart. i asked the guy in hardware/lighting and he looked around and said he hasnt seen them in stock for years. i thought about making something with a few "plug-in" sockets and a power strip. i added up the cost and just got another socket on a cord to hang.

i wish i had a camera so i could post pics of my little seedling, which is coming along nicely.

heres my list of minimal suplies you will need
seeds
soil (MG is ok if you mix it at least 50/50 with some other combonation of soils)
distilled water or whater that has been let stand 24+ hours
26w cfl or better(you can use only one for the first week but be prepared to upgrade sevral times)
pots or cups. i alwayss start out in really small cups. if i could ever get em for free id def want square pots
a fan isnt really necisary yet but good to have
a box or container that wont let light in or out, well ventilated

i think its a GREAT idea! just im to much of a newb to start haha or i would join

I am growing on wal-mart/lowes atm... since where I am at that is all there is. I have two plants flowering under 8 26watt cfls and 2 65 watt cfls... I also have a rubbermade grow box for veg... In which I have 8 26 watt cfls. The small plants are something like 16 days from breaking ground... And they are in rough shape. I have NO IDEA why... Since I thought I was doing things much better this time around. I am currently looking for any help people can offer....

I read *alot* about growing. If it has been done, I have probably read it. I lack the money to be able to just make a perfect grow.... and the resources to make one how I would like... So I have to work with what I have available. I am willing to help with anything someone might wanna know, so simply ask.

I am rather certain I would be considered in that "generation" and I understand the difference between voicing your opinion and being a full out douchebag... Maybe I am a rare breed. Either way, we're all here to be baked and have fun. So let's do just that.

Alright, the 4th of July party clean up went WAY faster than anticipated so I've had time build the box I've decided to use. My last grow was in the same closet, but just on the shelf. Man, they stunk up the entire house, made kind of hard to entertain friends and family. Something to think about if you're growing for the first time.

Anyway, I've been wiring this thing and will have it completed today.

I'm going to start the germin of about 40 seeds in a paper towell today.

Just lol @ this thread and to the OP a ounce a plant? lol! are you growing in a 1x1x1 area?, you hope to germ 10 out of 30 ? lol with 5 total fems i could teach you a hell of allot, but i really think if you read a book on growing tomatoes it would advance your knowledge allot. just my 2 cents. and why the fuck do u want a grow buddy? you wanna go live with real criminals in jail for 25?. Growing flowers is not something to be in prison for.
