Lollipoping

@pegboy In all seriousness, how big do you grow your plants to not require any defoliation/lollipopping? I never use to have to defol/lolipop when I grew shorter plants in 5 gals. Growing larger plants in 10 gal requires it or the lower half of the plant is literally just a waste of time in my personal opinion.

Ok. Back to actual constructive discussion. Haha. Since I've been growing again probably about 3 years now I keep my plants very very small. I live in a big city and have a very small apartment. Barely enough room to fit a 2x2x41/2 tent. So I rarely if ever veg for more than 5 or 6 weeks (usually 5). So personally I have no reason to lollipop.

In a space that size a scrog is the best way to minimize larf and pull good weight.
I managed to pull 200g of tops in my 2x2 that way.

I'm sure lollipopping is helpful in the fact that its cleaner and makes things easier to keep a tidy clean house. But I still don't buy the assertion that it actually increases yield.

There ya go, you do not need to lollipop so that could be why you have a biased standpoint on it. Nothing wrong with that. I shared that logic when I was growing smaller plants too. We're all here for a good time not a long time so lets have fun and not take things too serious. :)

You are probably 100 percent right. But I'm not even that interested in maximizing my yield. I keep it simple and keep things as easy as I can. I don't even mess with scrogging. I top plants and then don't even really train them. I can get about 4oz on every run without doing much else than keeping them happy. I try to get fire but max yield isn't that important to me. At 4oz a run I got more old weed laying around here than I know what to do with. And I even give plenty away.

Although it looks cleaner, that's not the purpose of lollipopping. Removing lower LARF and sucker branches improves the air flow through larger plants, like those in a SCROG, and reduces your chances of mold. After 4+ months of TLC, it sucks to toss a nice nugget because of that grey shit.

I only did it once due to the amount work it added and the inability to take the plant out of the tent. It was wild seeing how many near identical cola's could come off a single plant.

I completely agree with this statement. That would be the positive aspect of lollipopping. But not increased yield.

I have done a couple of non SCROG grows and agree that in those situations, lollipopping is pointless. There is minimal pruning required for two plants that yielded just a smattering over 7 oz. combined.

But as a perpetual grower of two of the larger variety ladies in a SCROG, lollipopping has yielded me about an extra ounce per plant versus not lollipopping. While an additional 56 grams might seem picayune when you consider the extra effort, it's the difference between always having some supply on-hand versus having to drop $12/gram at the dispensary for lesser quality stuff.
