“The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true.” I'm just quoting some old dead white guy but he is still kind of funny and right.

New Zealand is one of a small number of jurisdictions – including mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, Australia and Fiji – pursuing COVID-19 containment or elimination. Most have had new outbreaks. The exceptions are Taiwan, Mongolia, Fiji and New Zealand.
Australia adopted very similar responses to the pandemic and it is important to note that most states and territories are in the same position as New Zealand. But Victoria and, to a lesser extent, New South Wales are seeing a significant resurgence.
The key difference is that New Zealand committed relatively early to a clearly articulated elimination strategy and pursued it aggressively. An intense lockdown proved highly effective at rapidly extinguishing the virus.

Just want to highlight this part again.

trump and “family values” and “pro life” freaks are sacrificing 1000 people a day to the god of greed.
They have murdered truth and are now sabotaging USPS to steal another election.

NZ back into the fight. Straight into a small lock down.

Kudos and best wishes to NZ.

Until there is a vaccine, this is how a well governed country will manage it. There is no "return to normal". Probably ever. We are going to have to change our ways. We were not paying proper heed to warnings about potential plagues and today's crisis is a result of that.

During an interview with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta on Wednesday, Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, agreed that the U.S. death rate was one of the highest in the world. He also suggested the U.S. is not doing as well as other countries in handling the disease.

“It is worth reminding people we're not quite 5 percent of the world's population, yet represent 20 to 25 percent of the world's deaths ... that has to be the worst, is it not the worst?” Gupta asked.

“I mean, it is. Quantitatively if you look at it, it is. I mean the numbers don't lie,” Fauci said.
