The problem with this is that we will be answering the same questions over and over. I see it in the chat channel all the time same questions. Its best to use the search function (now that its working again 
or start a thread. Then the person after you if they have a similar problem they can use the same answer.

And, with a separate channel, if you don't like seeing the same questions and answers over and over...you don't have to join the channel!
Also, I think a live discussion between experienced growers would be welcomed as well.

Live chat is so much easier...and discussions between experienced growers would be a lot easier to have.
I'm not 100% but I don't think the IRC channel is hosted by rollitup so it'd literally be 0 bandwidth or cpu usage...just 30 seconds of code
