    [h=2]Rollitup Gone Mobile ( Android )[/h]
    Hey Guys/Gals,

I am just writing to let you know that we officially launched our android application for smartphones, the application will allow you to:

    1) Upload pictures directly from your phone to your journal and other posts
    2) Read recent comments on threads
    3) Check private messages

To install the software simply visit rollitup with your android device and it should alert you about the application.

The cost of the application is $0.99, that's less then a cup of coffee which will help us pay for development of further applications.

IPHONE AND IPAD users, we are currently being reviewed by apple, hopefully with no snags we should be live within 3 weeks.

Please give us good reviews to help us get it out.

The official word is that the Like button wont be coming back any time in the foreseeable future. It was a system resource drain, and a security bugged addon that was probably the source of RIU losing almost two months worth of posts. The system resources and security problems are two nails in the coffins. Sorry. We cant risk losing months of posts just so people can "like" instead of "rep" or "reply"....... :(
ok i understand what the reasons are for getting rid of the like button.

what im saying is FIX IT!!

we know it has caused issues but there are plenty of other sites whom have a like button and security is not compromised. theres a way around it and what your saying is you guys could care less to take the time to fix it for your dedicated RIU members.

You guys do realize that the "like button" is an vB mod, and not a standard vB option. What this means is that they put some code from a third party developer and injected it into the vB code. This can cause problems like they were likely experiencing if the mod isn't supported by the developer, especially when the time for vB version upgrades comes around. Yes, many sites do have some form of "like" button, but most of them are very likely different and less resource hogging mods. Most like buttons I've seen are either similar to the +rep button we already have, or are connected to your facebook account. Personally I could care less about the like button, we already have the +rep button afterall. Perhaps an easy alternative would be a Google "+1" button.

If anything, I'd rater have an "unlike" or "-rep" button to counter +rep.

lets keep google out of this.

As it has been stated previously its a easy way to backtrack to threads when you reply to someone and they like it it shows up as a notification. then you can click the link to the post that was liked and follow up. now the best way to follow up on a thread is to subscribe. I dont care for subbing every thread i leave words on. alot of times when someone asks a question you have to ask them more details about thier grow to properly help them out. so say i ask a question to the OP's question, he replies but i have moved on my way and didnt subscribe. I wont have a easy way of getting back to that thread unless they give reputation.

Rep..
I think something needs to be fixed with rep, people see high rep and they believe these guys, its like saying HEY this guy knows what he is talking about. stick around the site long enough and you can develop a great reputation for talking about politics or religion in one of the topics listed on this site, but know nothing about growing. plus when you follow a friends thread, you cant rep them repeatedly so you have no way of saying "hey read this and liked it, nothing worth commenting on" now you have to make up 10char to tell them you liked the post.

I dunno, all in all the like button serves many purposes, I understand its a challenge to get the code right for it.

I know there would be alot of happy members if you guys would work on it, i understand these things take time to do right and if the old system is not good then im not asking to bring it back. im asking that we work on developing a new like system similar to the old one.

I responded to the thread about this in Support and also the one in Politics. We understand the attraction to the Like button, and we are trying to bring it back. We have been having some compatibility issues with it, and we will continue to try to make it work.

there should be different catagorie for rep earned. each thread or several thread lumped together,

like grow rep, public rep, elite rep, ect.

Thank you! If they are working on it maybe we should lay off a bit?... No need to cause an annoying uproar if they are trying.
