ok i have a 600 watt hps and a massive room im thinking about halfing the room to what the 600 can light i was just wondering how many foot by foot can a 600 power or what size should i shorten the room to and how many plants could i get under a 600 i was thinking 6 - 8?

i use a 600 hps in 4' x 4' x 6.5' tent i had 6 plants but had to move one out , there are guys on here that'll tell u in detail how many square foot the light will cover but i wouldnt try anything over 6 x 6 but if uve got the space/cash/time u could throw in a couple of cfls at the sides.

hope so lol i tryed it in the room and it just wasted light coz the room was massive i cant afford anymore lights and the bulb when on its like a orange or golden colour is that ok for flower and veg?

I use a 600 watt HPS too, with one of those 4 foot 'umbrella' reflectors, and 4' x 4' is about all i would use it for. 5' x 5' would probably do okay too, but I'd go for the 4' size, and put as many plants as you can fit in there. I have five 3-4 foot plants under mine, but you could squeeze in 4 rows of 4, if they were smaller plants.

thank you for your reply but what about the colour iv heard light colour or bulb output play a quite big deal in growing?

The minimum recommended 'lumens per square foot' for growing, is 3500. A 5' x 5' area would be about 3600. a 6' x 6' area would only be about 2500, which is way too low to provide decent growth and yield. 4' x 4' area would be about 5600, which is enough to make just about anyone happy. I'd go with the 4' area.

rite this mite sound stupid but could u send me a pm explaing what lumens are i havent a clue what u just said sorry im new :P

For best results, use HPS(mostly red, and around 3000K color temp) for flowering, and MH(mostly blue, about 6500K) for vegetative growing. Use can use either type for the entire grow, but it won't be optimum. If you have to choose just one, go with HPS because it will give you the better yield at the end.(but it will grow slower in veg)

i feel so stupid i havent a clue what 6500 k and lumens are and how to judge them and stuff lol :P

Google "color temperature" and "lumens" and do a little reading. It's 8:40AM and I'm too lazy right now to type out an explanation.

If you go by the advice that i gave above, you won't go wrong. Also, you don't have to worry about the 3000/6500K because the grow bulbs are already the correct color temperature when you buy them.

I run a 1000w in a 4'x 5' closet. I have 8 cheese plants that are 37 days into flowering and I do not have 1 spare inch of space. :)

8????????? jeezz man ive only five in a 4' x 4' tent at 33 days of flower and i dont think i could stash an anorexic ethiopian in it.

Yea 8 of them. I had 10 but had to give 2 away. :( And I cropped them young. It has been a struggle. Check out the link to the cheese grow
