Lights and plugin outlets

Hey guys i have a question, i have 13w FL and for my sprouts. Well its been pluged in for a day or two and last night the smoke detector when off and when it was plugged in. As soon as i unplugged it stopped. Then it went off 20mins after when it wasnt plugged in. I do now have a power strip to convert the electricity. Does anyone know why it went off? I going to be getting my 150hps and ballast today just scared that it will do the same thing or that there will be a fire.

So was there a fire originally? Was there smoke or did anything burn? Or did the fire alarm just go off randomly?

Did you check for warm spots ? Was the outlet warm? could be a bad wire, or plug. Could be too small of a wire for the current overheating the wires , could be many things. Do you know the amp rateing for the circuit you are on and what is being used besides the light on the circuit? Have you mapped out the circuits so you know what is on each one and how they are being used? 15 amp circuit? 20 amp? 30 amp? Wire size? single pole or double pole?

Houses burn down all the time because of people plugging too many things into a plug or overloading a circuit. This is not something for an amature to mess with. You can't just guess, you have to know. If unsure, then get professional help. A couple hundred for an electrician is a small price to pay for safety.
Around here there are a bunch of electricians that will work for trade, or don't care if you are growing pot. I paid an electrician about a month ago with my oatmeal raison canna-cookies. :) Check out craigs list.

Well i just had one light plugged into a outlet with to sockets. There was no smoke that i could or smell. i felt the wall and the sockets and didnt feel anything but cold. I just had a regular lamp light bulb for my 2 sprouts didnt think it was a lot of power being drawn. And no i havent mapped out and circuits didnt know i needed to for a 1 to 2 plant grow. but in my room i had 2 computers,tv and xbox plugged into a surge protector then that plugged into the wall and never had a problem with the smoke detectors. I am going to check the batteries on it to see if that was the case. the sound it made is like a loud ping then the next ping sounded like it was cut off and stopped.

So forgive me if this seems a stupid Q...

Is it ok to plug in a surge protector w/ a 600 & 1000 into a high wattage timer thats plugged into one socket? ive always used surge protectors for my closets, which use CFL's. They never total over about 500W total tho so i didnt have any exp with this much W into one surge protector and socket.
