hey guys i was thinking about getting a small 250 hps light with reflector.
My problem is my grow space is pretty small and im worried about heat.

But i dont think heat will be much of an issue because i currently have 8 cfl lights on in my grow closet now.

do you guys think that i should switch over to the hps or just keep the cfl's

thanks guys

How many total CFL watts are you running now and what are your grow space's dimensions?

switch to the hps. 250w isnt hard to cool if heat does become an issue. a small cpu fan will do the trick

i think the 400 will be too much and i grow one plant at a time so i dont think i need that much
the light systems i found are all pretty big and the small ones are expensive does anyone have any real good sights to buy lights from

150 watt high pressure sodium bulb included - delivers an amazing 16,000 lumens! The color spectrum is ideal for indoor growing.
Highly reflective aluminum insert.
Vented housing helps dissipate heat

i found this one but its only 150 watt , i only grow only plant at a time
now my question is would this 150 watt hps put out more light than my 8 cfl bulbs

28" of height? I'm thinking a 250W light would get too hot for your space. Maybe you should add more CFL's. Are your temps ok now?

no i have about 5 foot 9 of space wherere i hang my lights
my temps are ok now but i need more yield and more quality ,, temps are in the low 80's

I think a 250W might suit your space fine but be prepared to address heat issues should they arise. You may need to add an extraction fan or two, I'm talking about the larger PC case fans.

Do you want regular good tight bud like you see on the streets? Your not going to get it with anything less then a 400 watter regularly. growing 1 plant at a time is going to be very costly when you ad electric costs. fans. etc. and divide it up to one plant yielding about an ounce. Not to mention one plant goes bad you wasted time and money for nothing. You need a situation where you grow a min. 3 plants at a time so the total costs are in line. If your just getting started growing with cfls are quite a hassle. You have to spend a ridiculous amount of time moving lights that will get old fast.... all for some good and some not so good flacky bud. Use cfls to sprout up to 3 weeks then move to hps. You should use a 400 with air cooled venting. An air cooled hood let plants be as close as 6" from light. If you have a min. 2 x 3 area it is ok with venting. Otherwise find a better spot b/c the hassle will frustrate you within 6 mths. If you only want one plant at a time grow 3 and don't grow again for 6/9 months. gl

no, no, no...You don't want a combined ballast/reflector or your ballast in the room. It is one piece that makes the room hot. The other is the hood. Is money an issue? Do this. Call Tony at htg and mention your shopping the interet for pricing. Tell him your room size and for a recommendation as well as a package deal & some shipping combined cost. Tell him a friend mentioned you were the guy and completement the business. You will thank me for the savings.

Small area no combined....Bad move bud....You need an air cooled flector. I can see your just now doing research. Look at the journals to see what the results will be. Don't waste your time/money on cheap or anything you have not seen here work repeatedly. There are a lot of people who spend good money, get frustrated and quite. Check out the 250 and 400 watt club pics and journals. Note what they are using.......

good so heat due to a c isn't much of an issue. If you are looking at the 250 u must continue looking at the 400. Thank me later. If heat is an issue it will be for either and the results will be the difference in playing with the college or pro level results..The reflector works for either... Either most likely will need one hole for extracting heat. You can have a carbon filter, then air cooled reflector, then extractor fan (s & p 150 model will do perfect) out the ceiling vent of heat. The air cooled hood is so cool a hand can hold the reflector with no heat. Just keep the ballast outside the room. Go to Home Depot and buy a $3 brick to lay the ballast on the floor or sturdy table, insulated 6 inch ducting for air cooling. Search carbon filters on ebay (6 inch version about 90 bucks).

Lastly on the call to Tony -owner HTG no body else...If he is not available call back or have him return the call. mention your on a budget like everyone these days and internet shopping for your grow room needs. Mention your looking at digital ballast and really like the Lumatek due to your research with NO RF signal issues (shows you have done your research). Ask him if it's possible to get a good (recommended by tony due to size room) air cooled reflector and Lumatek 400 watter around $200? Include any other nut. needs for the package. If your looking at the combo reflector you linked your not too much of a money issue. NOW you will have results......

alright lastly...for seed sprout to 3 weeks use a 5 dollar light from lowes buy a Y and put 2 light bulbs in it. Go to with the digital lumatek ballast you can switch to mh for a week or 2 in veg with that ballast...Then to flower hps same ballast....

Next don't screw around with soils that are cheap. Causes problems and your grow and money spent will show poorly. Spend the money on FF Ocean Forest soil. Can send over recipe if needed. The grow will now look like a garden center green.....Guy, do your research....

wow thanks for all that info man you def changed my mind on a couple things
i know how to grow but im not really good with the light thing but you helped me out good
i dont know what im gonna get yet , but the only ventilation i will have in my current setup is fans and having the door open
so i cant get ducting or anything like that ,
do you guys think i should stick with cfl's, i dont want to but im afraid if i spend like 200 bucks on a light it might get my closet too hot
thanks again

thanks for the advice guys
i think im gonna go with the 150 because its cheaper than the 250 obviously and it will give me an estimate of how hot things will be
i figure if the 150 watt hps isnt that hot at all , i could eventually switch to the 250 watt because the 150 watt is only 70 bucks and i need to experiment
this is the one i was looking at , what do you guys think , thanks relaxed for the heat advice

I have nothing but good things to say about HTGS, so you should be fine. Best of luck to you.
