Light modification.

Ok I'm new to growing. I just set up my first tent. It's a 4×4 I'm running a 600 watt hid that is not cooled. My exhaust fan is running all out. I have my vents open and 2 fans keeping air circulation in the tent. I can't keep my Temps down. I have another hid light I can't remember if it's 300 or 400 watts but it has a cooled hood. Is there anyway I can run my 600 watt light with the cooled hood? Even if I have to switch out the light sockets. (Take light socket from 600 watt fixture and put it in the cooled 3 or 400 watt fixture) is it possible? Has anyone done it? I'm open to any suggestions. Like I said I am new to this. I'll take any and all advice I can get right now. I apologize in advance if I posed in the wrong place or anything. I'm new to the forum also.

You should be able to swap hoods. Mine swapped out with like 3 or 4 screws. Hard to recall exactly, it was years ago.

OR.. Sell what you have and buy LED. :bigjoint:

How to properly measure the temperature in a growbox?
I use a remote sensor but you have to shield them from direct light as their black bodies soak up the heat. I try and get them close to the top of the plant and out of the light.

I bought one of these to monitor things. Ebay has open box deals cheap. BALDR Digital Wireless Colorful LCD Weather Station Atomic w/ 3 Outdoor Sensors B0359WST4H4PR

How are you reading temperature, thermometer in the light?

I have a cheap thermometer/hygrometer when I first set it up it was in the light. I ended up moving it so its now out of the light but not really close to the plants either. I'm gonna get a different set up to monitor temp and humidity. But I know it's still too warm in there even if the thermometer isn't accurate.

Yeah I just dug my other light out of storage. It looks like it will be easy enough to do. I am gonna get through this grow with the lights I have Hopefully and buy an led for the next round.

@Yeroc semaj What is the power of the exhaust fan?
I'm not sure how much air it moves. And of course that bit of info isn't marked on the fan anywhere. But it's a 4 inch exhaust fan. It seems to be moving a pretty good amount air. I'll have to do some digging and see if I can get better info on the exhaust fan.

I like that set up it looks really nice. Does it seem to be pretty accurate? I just looked it up and it's pretty cheap on Amazon. I'm probably gonna order one.

Yes it is dead on. But there is lag due to the sensor body mass and it soaks up heat from lamps. But it sure is nice to just glance to see how all is.

I have two 150W HPS and 2-50 w full spectrum LEDs and it reads too high if it's directly under the light; in the flower room I put them behind the fan. In the tent it is behind the fan about mid height.

I just placed the order. I also swapped out my hood for the cooled one and moved my exhaust and stuff around a bit. Made a pretty big difference and dropped my Temp inside the tent about 10 degrees. I'm still at the top of the temperature range. But at least I'm in the proper range now. I'll update again once the Baldr kit arrives.

Your mixing the air that much I doubt it needs to go near the plants. Maybe some more thought into getting the correct temperature seems that really is your first problem to overcome.

You can use a heating/cooling temp controller. Use the cooling side for the normal exhaust when lights on and the heating for a dehumidifying and exhaust setup. Using a humidistat you could have use that to come on at say 80% with a small fan.

Ok. I just ordered one of those too. Can't wait till it gets here. Thank you guys for the help. My Temps have already come down and I'm waiting for another inline fan to come in too.
