Light height vs light intensity (LED)

Hey,

Wondering about light height vs light intensity to get the proper amount of lumens to the canopy. During veg I've read you want between 25-50k lux. So my question is, does it matter if you achieve that through light height from the canopy or you get it from intensity. I ask because I cannot run my lights at 100%, I just get too much heat in my tent (85 to 87 if I run 100%).

So right now during veg I'm running the lights at 40% at about 16" from the canopy which gives me 40-45k lux. Is there any discernible difference between getting that lumen output from height vs intensity? From what I can see, the only difference should be the light spread when running it closer to the canopy. But any thoughts on this matter?

Thanks.

I don’t think it matters too much which way you go. I’m just starting to get the hang of my LEDs. I burned everything up using them at 100% and keeping them too close. They’re 288 diode boards with 120 watts of meanwell per board. I ran them at 100% again last grow but I had them 2 feet above the canopy. It should have been higher because the buds got 18-20 inches from them. A little too close in my setup. So less intensity is probably better starting out. We all have just so much height, so it’s probably best to run less wattage and have an extra board if you can afford it to make up the loss of light in flower.

Yeah I'm running a 240w kingbrite. I think I'm in a good place right now with using lumens instead of just height and or intensity. It's my second run so I'm keeping meticulous notes this time.

I think veg you want a max of 25k. 50k is for flowering with a max of 75k. Ive found 10k to be pretty good and Ive even dropped it down to 7k and my plants are fine altho Ive noticed a little stretch the past couple days, just a little. Gonna bump it up when it gets cooler
