Let's talk serious SCROG

That's a good idea man. Im running an open hood right with a CMH so it stays pretty cool, don't really need to cool the hood atm but I might use it for my next set up. R u running the scrubber inline with the hood ducting or u doin 2 separate fans? Cuz i would run it inline so it eliminates the need for 2 fans. Not sure how well the scrubber will work though if its inline with the hood.
Yeah the box makes it so i can run it inline on a single fan. Heres a sketch of how it will mount and da box.IMG_20111007_195744.jpg

if you have a air tight box, good flow on your ducting it will be fine with your hood. U can prefilter on the intake using a dustshroom.
When its all said and done my flex ducting will be about 40 inches long. and hard ducting is another 40. Super short run for a 6inch vortex or whatever u prefer.

My girls are starting to grow up through my screen at 39 days so what now, I wait for them to get 3 inches of stem through and then move to next hole (?) or..... Another question this 1st plant is awful bushy, do I have to remove all that under the screen (?)
The 3 inch rule is negotiable, if you can push them under enough for them to turn back toward the light in the next hole over you can do it.

I would hold off on trimming the lower branches, if they don't seem to be growing up, sure, chop 'em but some lower branches can stretch and give you nice colas. my rule of thumb (usually) is if its thinner than the end of a chopstick, chop-it.

I noticed in your pics most of your plants are growing straight up, they are pretty close to the screen as is but I would top them everywhere you can. Get them as bushy as possible so you aren't just laying 1 stalk growing 1 direction, you will end up growing small buds that barely come above the screen. make sure everything you don't cut is at least 3-5 inches above the screen before flowering, any branches below that can be cut. This is based on strains that are 70-90 day flower, indicas may need a bit more room, upwards of 7 inches before you start to flower, sativas will stretch but indicas will not and you will end up with half your cola below your canopy.

question... during the stretch should I be tucking fan leaves under the screen? Or r they fine to leave.. alone.. IMG_20111009_211410.jpg

They should be fine above the screen. I spend ALLOT of time training during the stretch getting the buds exactly where I want them. Try to get the big stalks right under the light. Also space the remaining shoots out so they are not too crowded. Don't be afraid to trim new spindly little shoots.

Also, judging by the photo, you may just want to let them go. Unless they are sativas, must of the stretch is over after about 5 days. Let them get up above the screen. I fucking live the flip! I've got about 3 more days, maybe 5 before I flip.

Can't really decide..flip and train the stretch or just train exactly where I want them to be and hit them with bushmaster. That stuff works wonders but I did suffer a hermie last round that pollinated everything :( First hermie ever, I'm kind of blaming the bushmaster.

Your not the only person I have heard of having herms from bushmaster and similar products. Bushmaster and Gravity have some pretty heavy chemicals that a lot of hybrids don't get along with well, I would go without it if you can afford the room but you already know that based on what happened last time.

if you can afford the time before the flip I would take it, I'm in the same boat, just got my second lady under the screen and just waiting... I HATE WAITING! "huff huff" ok, I'm calm now, ya, go another 5-7 days if you must, you know it will pay off :D

Here's how I deal with fan leaves, this is not what everyone does but it works for me; As soon as you canopy is full, trim back most of the fan leaves under the canopy leaving a few is fine, they will just act as a "nitrogen battery" when you change to flowering nutes. fan leaves on the top of the screen I let go until they start obstructing larger flower spots then i clip em, above screen maintenance is best done in the 3rd week of flower or so, depending on strain.

^ what he said. Another thing that I ahve heard can reduce stress is to just trim the fan leaves way back (like actually cut the leaflets) as opposed to cutting the petiole. Apparently it COULD be less stressful... and it does make some sense it terms of botanical processes.

Got both ladies in sceens finally, started the one on the left about a week ago and just got the second frame built over this weekend.

one is plastic shelving the other is a wooden frame, but both will work just fine, preferring the wooden frame as i can put more weight on it.

looking good but you really have to get rid of that shit on the bottom.
What shit on the bottom? They look pretty damn good to me. Doesn't look like anything much is shaded so if you're talkin about the foliage on the bottom then i'd like to hear ur reasoning. I'm talkin bout profgrow's pics

Legally is actually right, the bottom branches were holding them back and would have never gotten above the screen, trimmed out most of the brush after i took those pics, will post new ones of the cleaned up "undercarriage"

Ah well there you go then, learn something new everyday. Never done a traditional scrog myself so i wouldn't know the deal with those bottom branches. LEgally I'm in need of advice, hit my sig if u got a min nd see the end of the thread

With traditional scrog vs your "upside down scrog", everything below the screen will be light starved, its easier to just top your tallest branches and remove skinny underbrush, this way all your dense growth is above the screen and only "feeder stalks" beneath the screen, I may even try your technique at some point and run a comparison grow.

kinnda like trim, less than 50% of the fan leaf. I use this on my christmas trees grows. works well. They still serve their purpose without all the light blockage.
Thanks for the advice. Stretch is done in 3 days time to get this crap straight.

One thing you have to remember about a scrog is that the light penetration you see before the flip is NOT going to be the penetration mid and late flower. Buds are big and dense (well, mine are anyways :) ). You start getting 10" tall buds 2" away from each other and virtually no light is going to make it down under.

So you can either leave them on to yellow and fall off naturally...which honestly, makes a mess or you can clip it off now. The bigger reason to clip is to get rid of all those lower bud sites that will never amount to anything.

This is like the 5th? Time we have gone over this. If you want to talk "serious scrog". Then seriously, start at the beginning of the thread. Good times, happy growing. I'll try to post my scrog progress tonight.

Proper! Here I am chasing around 9 plants and you got 2 that look 100x more massive than mine. Definitely going to refer to this thread for my 2nd go.

Yeh man that makes sense, thats actually one reason why i did an upside down scrog, because i didnt want to have this above canopy below canopy battle goin on. My next grow is gona be a 4 plant scrog, each a different strain, gona be a tricky one. That one i'll do a traditional scrog, try my hand at that.

Here are some pictures of my SCROG. Getting pretty close to flipping, probably about 3-4 days really as I just cranked the heat and co2 to get them to hurry the fuck up.

Not heavily trimmed understory. in the one vertical picture you can actually see the screen in the top of the picture....not a whole lot of thickness veg wise.

Can't wait to pop these suckers. BOOM!!
